Northern Indiana Passenger Rail - NIPRA

Northern Indiana Passenger Rail - NIPRA The Northern Indiana Passenger Rail Association (NIPRA) is dedicated to bringing rejuvenated passenger and freight rail service to Northeast Indiana.

NIPRA's goals are to educate the public and work with local, state, and federal elected and appointed officials, as well as business leaders and the general public in this region, to promote the return of passenger rail service to Fort Wayne. We believe that our transportation system should include rail, highway, and air modalities. Benefits to the citizens of northeast indiana will include a stronger economy, enhanced security, a cleaner environment, and a better quality of life.

Passenger rail funding is back in the national conversation, and we are urging Congress to preserve dedicated federal investment in passenger rail programs.

On May 22, the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee approved the BUILD America 250 Act following a lengthy markup session. While the bill includes several positive rail policies and reforms, many passenger rail advocates continue raising concerns about the absence of guaranteed funding for passenger rail programs.

That matters because predictable funding helped drive unprecedented momentum for passenger rail development over the past five years, including corridor planning efforts important to Ohio and the Midwest.

We’ve broken down what’s included in the bill, what it could mean for our region, and why passenger rail supporters are continuing to speak up: https://www.allaboardohio.org/posts/what-s-missing-from-the-build-america-250-act-dedicated-passenger-rail-funding

Passenger rail investment supports jobs, infrastructure, mobility, manufacturing, and economic growth in communities across the country. As Congress continues negotiations on the final bill, now is the time to make our voices heard.
