Mission: We are the connection between the healing power of the horse & individuals who have physical or cognitive needs. We have many friends to take care of on the farm, and as the saying goes, "many hands make light work". We would love to meet you and learn about your unique gifts that would add to our team here at Summit. Whether you just want to be a side walker during lessons, groundskeeper, feeder or organizer, we have a place for you.

What an incredible experience for our veterans! 🐴❤️

A HUGE thank you to BraveHearts Therapeutic Riding & Educational Center and Meggan Hill-McQueeney, a 2023 National Cowgirl Hall of Fame inductee, along with staff members Amanda and Reno and their amazing team of horses, for making the trip to Summit Equestrian Center to spend time with our veterans!

And what an experience it was!

From our veterans to our staff, everyone had an absolute blast! There was so much learning, laughter, encouragement, and confidence-building throughout the clinic.

Watching our veterans learn new skills, challenge themselves, and grow more confident in the saddle was something pretty special. And our staff walked away with some new knowledge and skills of their own!

Meggan, Amanda, Reno, and the entire BraveHearts team, THANK YOU! Thank you for making the trip, bringing your wonderful horses, and sharing your time, knowledge, and passion with our Summit family. We know how much work goes into traveling with horses, and we truly appreciate everything you did to make this such a wonderful experience for our veterans.

We had an amazing time, learned so much, and made some pretty wonderful memories along the way. We can't thank you enough! ❤️🇺🇸

**Coming home and finding your way home aren't always the same thing.** 🇺🇸

Every veteran has a story.

Some served in combat. Others served far from the battlefield. Some carry memories that are difficult to talk about, while others carry experiences that have shaped who they are in ways the rest of us may never fully understand.

But one thing remains the same.

**They all served. Their service mattered. And every one of their stories deserves to be heard.**

*The Cowboy Who Came Home Too Late*, a poem written by U.S. Navy veteran Jay Roberts, tells a story of a man searching for something he couldn't quite find after coming home.

And then, there was a horse.

No questions about where he'd been. No expectations of who he should be. No need to explain the things he carried.

Just a horse.

There's something incredibly special about the connection between a horse and a person. Sometimes it happens in the smallest moments. A gentle nudge. A quiet breath. A hand resting against a horse's neck. A moment when the noise of the outside world seems to disappear.

And sometimes, those little moments mean more than anyone standing on the outside could ever realize.

That's part of what makes Summit Equestrian Center so special.

Veterans come through the doors with different backgrounds, different experiences, and different reasons for being there. Some come for the horses. Some for the friendships. Some to learn something new, challenge themselves, or simply have somewhere they look forward to going.

And none of them need to have the same story to belong.

**A horse doesn't care what branch you served in, what your job was, or whether you ever stepped onto a battlefield.**

And neither does the welcome waiting for you here.

This is the WHY behind Stock the Barn.

Yes, the fundraiser helps provide hay, feed, veterinary care, supplies, and the people and resources needed to keep our programs running.

But behind those everyday expenses is something so much bigger.

It's the veteran who finds a new friendship.

The one who discovers confidence they didn't know they still had.

The laughter that fills the barn.

The quiet moments that nobody thinks to photograph.

And the simple comfort of knowing there's a place where you're always welcome.

On November 7th, Stock the Barn will bring our community together to help keep these opportunities available to veterans at no cost.

Because whether someone served on the front lines or behind the scenes, **their service mattered then, and they matter now.**

We hope you'll take a few minutes to watch this video, listen to Jay's words, and think about the many different stories carried by the veterans in our community.

We’re not sure if that’s a horse, a prehistoric creature, or Biff’s taxidermy portrait… but the confidence is what really sells it. 💀😂

**If you could look in the mirror and see the person you used to be, what would you say to them?**

We look in the mirror every day, but how often do we really stop and see how far we've come?

We see the gray hairs, the wrinkles, the years that have passed. We notice the things that have changed, the things we can no longer do quite like we used to. But what about everything we've overcome?

The battles we've fought. The losses we've carried. The moments that changed us forever. The strength we found when we didn't think we had any left.

Somewhere in that reflection is a younger version of ourselves. One who had dreams, faced fears, made mistakes, took chances, and had no idea where life would lead.

And if that younger version could see us today, would they notice the wrinkles? The gray hair? The things we think we've lost?

Or would they see someone who kept going, even when life wasn't easy?

Our horses grow older, too. The young, spirited horse that once ran without a care eventually slows down. The years leave their marks, but they also bring patience, wisdom, and a quiet understanding that only comes with time.

Maybe that's something we share with them.

We aren't the same as we once were. Life has changed us. Some of those changes came with joy, others with heartache. But every chapter has helped shape who we've become.

**Sometimes we get so caught up in how much time has passed that we forget to appreciate just how far we've traveled.**

So the next time you look in the mirror, don't just look for the person you used to be.

Take a moment to appreciate the person you've become. ❤️

November 7th is coming up fast, and we're getting ready for our biggest fundraiser of the year at Summit Equestrian Center!

If you've ever wondered what it takes to keep a barn full of horses going, let's just say... the grocery bill alone is something else! 😂🐴

Between hay, feed, farrier visits, veterinary care, equipment, keeping the lights on, and paying the hardworking staff who care for our horses and help keep everything running, there's a LOT happening behind the scenes!

The horses may be the stars of the show, but there's a whole team of people making sure they're ready for their important jobs! 🐴❤️

**But here's why it all matters.**

There is something extra special about having the support of a local Fort Wayne business that believes in giving back to the community it calls home.

Hanning & Bean has a long history here in Northeast Indiana, and their support of organizations and causes throughout our community speaks volumes. This year, we are incredibly grateful that they chose to support Summit Equestrian Center and Stock the Barn.
