What an incredible two days in Washington, D.C.!🤩
Executive Director Bonnie Doolittle and Director of Child Hosting Mindy Theard had the privilege of representing New Mercies as we accepted a 2026 Angels in Adoption® award from the CCAI for our work in foster care prevention on behalf of the churches, volunteers, and staff who make this ministry possible.
Day 1 included a private, in-depth tour of Capitol Hill hosted by Congressman Stutzman’s office who nominated us, an Advocacy Fair highlighting prevention, foster care, and adoption, and a leadership conference featuring voices from all three areas. We were especially encouraged by Keri Richmond’s message about the essential role of relationships in prevention. We ended the day with a roundtable with others from across the country doing similar work.
Day 2 began with meetings with members of the Congressional offices of Stutzman, Messmer, and Houchin, where we advocated for families and community-based prevention. We were also honored to speak directly with Senator Jim Banks and Senator Todd Young. The day concluded with a reception and ceremony celebrating the 2026 Angels in Adoption® honorees.
