My Autism Connection is a nonprofit serving adults with autism based in Ft Myers. Myers and working on an expansion to Tampa.

Through research, we help build social skills, gain work experience, and develop healthy relationships to achieve independence
DONATE - myautismconnection.net/donation-form/ My Autism Connection (MAC) is a member-driven organization for autistic adults ages 18+, serving southwest Florida with our main office located in Ft. MAC connects individuals with ASD to their communities through social and experiential learning opportunities to build healthy relationships and transition towards independence for work and life. Examples of our member activities include:
● Podcasting classes
● Driving instruction
● Career tours and job preparedness
● Movie nights
● Creative writing and art workshops
● Cooking classes

MAC is a community of support for autistic adults that provides teachable opportunities to develop skills towards independence, fosters authentic friendships, and empowers for acceptance. We help bridge people from dependence to independence and from self-doubt to self-acceptance. There is much work to do, but we are dedicated whole-heartedly to our mission. We welcome new members, community partners, and donors who wish to create a connected community dedicated to embracing the idea that all minds are equal and worthy of belonging.

Happy Halloween from My Autism Connection, Inc.!

Today is a great day to have fun your way. Some people love costumes, candy, and parties. Some like a quiet night in with a movie and a snack. Both are great choices.

We are thankful for our members, families, volunteers, and supporters. You make MAC a place where autistic adults can connect, grow, and be themselves.

✏️ Sometimes, a little doodle can grow into a lifelong passion!

For Corey, drawing started with doodling cars as a toddler. Over the years, his creativity expanded to include vehicle concepts, cartoon characters, logos, and other original designs.

Like any artist, Corey sometimes experiences artist's block when figuring out what to create next. But he continues to explore new ideas and build on his existing designs.

Through his art, Corey hopes to inspire others to bring their own ideas to life. He also dreams of turning his passion into something more, potentially earning money through commissions in the future. 💜

Creativity gives us the opportunity to explore our interests, share our ideas, and discover where our passions might lead. More often than not, our hobbies grow alongside us.

🎙️ What happens when you turn a passion into something creative?

For this member, podcasting is more than just a hobby. It’s a creative outlet that keeps her motivated, helps her stay organized, and gives her a way to bring her ideas to life. Inspired by creators like Tom Grossi, she finds motivation in seeing others balance their passions with the work that goes on behind the scenes.

Podcasting also provides a sense of relaxation and focus. By channeling her deep interests into something meaningful, she has found a way to feel grounded while doing something she loves.

Podcasting has also helped her connect with people who share her passions. Her motto is “If you never know, just ask!” After meeting Andy from the Pack-a-Day Podcast in person, she followed up directly, which eventually led to an opportunity to work together.

Her experience is a reminder that hobbies can do more than give us something to enjoy. They can help us express ourselves, find our focus, and build connections with others. 💜

🎃 Trying Something New, One Creation at a Time! 👻

This Wednesday, our intern Trinity led a facilitation on the importance of self-expression through hobbies and the value of trying new things!

To put the lesson into practice, our members got hands-on with air-dry clay, creating their own miniature pumpkins and ghosts just in time for spooky season. Their creations will get a finishing touch when members return to paint them at our next creative arts night!

Trying a new hobby is an opportunity to explore our interests, express ourselves, and discover something we might enjoy. Whether we're creating something from scratch or stepping outside our comfort zone, there's value in giving ourselves the chance to try.

You don't have to be good at something for something to be good for you.

🎮 Sometimes, trying something new leads you to a world of your own.

When Eric first discovered Animal Crossing, he wasn’t sure he would enjoy it. He thought the game looked a little too childish and wasn’t sure it would be for him. But after watching someone else play, he decided to give it a try and ended up loving it.

Now, Eric describes the game as “immersive.” He enjoys exploring different islands, collecting items, and building up his own island. What he likes most is the freedom to create and explore a world where he can do things his own way.

“I feel comfortable that I can do whatever I want in the game,” Eric shared. “It’s your own island, a world of your own.”

Eric’s experience is a great reminder that we don’t always know what we’ll enjoy until we give something a chance. Trying something new can open the door to interests and experiences we never expected to love. 💜

🎨 What if you could take something you love and reimagine it in a whole new way?

For Emily, creativity is an escape and a way to bring her interests to life. She takes the things she loves and transforms them into something entirely new, using her imagination to make familiar ideas exciting again.

One of her latest projects puts a creative twist on Greek mythology by imagining what it would look like if Hades and Zeus swapped roles! ⚡🏛️

Emily’s creativity shows how hobbies can be more than something we enjoy in our free time. They give us space to explore our interests, express our ideas, and see familiar things from a different perspective. 💜

📚 As a popular book series among our members, Harry Potter brought together people who share an interest in its characters, stories, and magical world.

Shared interests can be a meaningful way to build friendships and create a sense of belonging. Sometimes, bonding over something you love is the perfect way to spark a conversation and find your people. 💜

Creativity is more than making art. It’s a way to express who you are.

For Dillon, creativity provides an outlet for his feelings, a chance to escape for a little while, and the freedom to bring his ideas to life. Through digital art, painting, and imaginative designs, he transforms his interests and ideas into something he can see and share.

As Dillon explained, creativity gives him a space to set aside others' expectations and express who he truly is. 💜

Art doesn't have to be perfect or follow a set of rules. Sometimes, it's simply about exploring your interests, expressing yourself, and creating something that feels like you!

Sometimes, making something is the perfect way to unwind. 🎨

At Creative Arts Night, MAC members had the opportunity to slow down, get creative, and connect with one another. Members sketched, painted, colored, and explored different ways to express themselves through art.

Creative Arts Night creates a relaxed, open space where members can enjoy their interests, connect with one another, and take a much-needed break from the demands of everyday life.
