On 20 March AFGE united with the AFL CIO, the teamsters and other unions and rallied at the Richmond Capital Bell Tower. It was well represented and televised, the Local Presidents from the Defense Logistics Agency, McGuire VA Medical Center and Local 1178 were in full force representing and advocating on behalf our BUEs and members.

You may have seen some of it on the evening news yesterday, however, if you have missed it, please see the attached that exhibits the efforts made on behalf of our BUEs and members.

The rally is a way to get the message out on a broader platform that the impacts of the current administration are hurting real people and to put a face with the numbers. It is also an opportunity to voice concerns on behalf of veterans and federal employees that we will not be silenced and to send a message to our legislative representatives that our voices want to be heard, that we need them to stand in the gap to address our concerns.

Local 1178 Membership Drive to 350+ was a success reaching the BUEs and sharing vital information and knowledge. The Local strives to align with AFGE Nationals Drive to 325 by increasing its membership, fostering engagement and stands united in the continued mission of protecting members rights.

Local 1178 trilogy aggressive schedule of hosting three days of lunch and learn (Chat & Chew) was an amazing opportunity to meet members and BUEs by making a human connection. It was a week of lunch and learns/ chat and Chew (In-Person/Virtual) and Union Open House full of conversations, communication, information sharing on a range of topics related to membership, benefits, current events, and how best to approach all of them.

Let me first start by thanking Jason Hall (Benefits Architect ) Nikki Omanidze( Legislative Political Organizer) and Chevelle Beasley (Defense Health Agency(DHA) Council representative for your continued support and rallying with Local 1178.

I appreciate all of Local 1178 Union Stewards specifically the ones associated to the organizations that we visited this week and those that stepped in to support.

AFGE Local 1178 (District 4) hold its 2024 Christmas event.

About last night , This is the first time since Covid that we have collectively gathered for a social event and It was a time of fun, food and fellowship. It was a time to put names to faces and a time to collaborate. It was a time to build bonds and relationships. The event theme was Sip Paint and Smoke (adult fun)and that we did Members painted,The cigar smokers enjoyed themselves on the back patio deck, and everyone enjoyed the line dancing, and the partaking of food and beverages.

Unfortunately, our special guest benefits architect Jason and our political activist Nikki were unable to join us. However, we had a surprise guest the McGuire VA hospital Union President Mintina stopped by, thank you so much for your support and your love as we continue to fight on behalf of our members.

Thank you to the committee for your commitment, your dedication and your participation. Everyone played a valuable role in one way or another and i thank you!!
