Fort Lee SAMC Sustainment Chapter

Welcome to the official page for the Fort Lee SAMC Sustainment Chapter. The original club was started at Fort Hood, Texas early in 1986.

There were several key people at Fort Hood - officer, enlisted, civil service, and a Killeen civilian - who were instrumental in getting this club up and running. Leading the effort was Lieutenant General Crosbie Saint, then the III Corps commander; his Command Sergeant Major George L. Horvath; III Corps Awards Clerk Jean Crisp, who is now Test and Experimentation Command (TEXCOM) awards clerk, an

d Don Moore, a Killeen artist who assisted with designing the logo and club awards. In 1991, then III Corps Commander Lieutenant General Pete Taylor and Command Sergeant Major Richard B. Cayton expanded the Fort Hood installation club to include all of III Corps. This included Fort Riley, Kansas; Fort Sill, Oklahoma; Fort Bliss, Texas; Fort Polk, Louisiana; and Fort Carson, Colorado. In 1993, CSM Cayton was voted into the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club by the membership and then became the Forces Command Sergeant Major. Soon thereafter, the club became Forces-Command (FORSCOM) wide, including the Reserves and National Guard. In 1994 at a Sergeant Major of the Army conference, the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club spread Army-wide, to all commands with installations retaining the selection process for their own NCOs. In 1998, it was estimated that the club membership was over 3000 soldiers and was steadilly increasing.

🏁🇺🇸 Proudly Representing Fort Lee at the NASCAR Race Event in Richmond!

This past Saturday, August 15, SAMC members and candidates, BOSS teammates, Soldiers, and Marines from across Fort Lee had the incredible opportunity to represent our installation at the NASCAR Race Event in Richmond, supporting the National Anthem ceremony alongside thousands of spectators.

It was a proud moment to stand together and represent the service, teamwork, and spirit of our Fort Lee community on such a big stage.

A special thank you to Mr. James Vardy and Mr. Jim Bade from the AUSA Southern Virginia Chapter for making this incredible opportunity possible. We also extend our appreciation to everyone who came out, supported this event, and proudly represented our Fort Lee community.

🇺🇸🎒 WHEN FORT LEE COMES TOGETHER, GREAT THINGS HAPPEN! ❤️

Our Back to School Giveaway was an incredible success! Thanks to the generosity of the Quartermaster, Ordnance, and Transportation Schools, our community partners, and supporters, over 250 military children received school supplies to start the new school year ready for success. 📚✏️

A special thank you to the Ordnance SLC 91–92 CMF Class for showing up and supporting today’s mission, and to our Fort Lee BOSS Team for once again being there when our Soldiers and families need them.

To our SAMC members, candidates, and every volunteer who gave their time and energy—thank you. Your selfless service made today possible.

Seeing the smiles on our military children reminded us why we do this. Today wasn’t just about school supplies—it was about taking care of our own. ❤️🇺🇸

The Back to School Ruck was an incredible success because of the generosity and teamwork of our Fort Lee community.

A sincere thank you to the Quartermaster, Ordnance, and Transportation Schools for stepping up to support our military children. Your donations will help countless students start the school year ready to learn and succeed.

A special thank you to the Ordnance School for leading the way with an outstanding contribution of school supplies. We were also honored by the presence of Regimental CSM Kamaludeen, whose leadership and encouragement inspired everyone throughout the event.
