Introducing Risenroots 🌞🌱
SEALNet Project Thailand 2026🌍

In the heart of Chiang Rai, home to over 30 ethnic communities rich in culture and wisdom, a new journey begins.✨

🌞🌱Risenroots is a youth-led initiative empowering indigenous and ethnic youth to reconnect with their identity, build financial literacy, and create sustainable futures through entrepreneurship.

We work with youth aged 17–21 from communities: Karen, Akha, Lahu, Hmong, Yao, and Lisu 🤎

But we are not building this alone.
We are part of the Southeast Asian Service Leadership Network (SEALNet), welcoming change makers, mentors, and young leaders from across the region to learn, share, and grow together.🧶

Through workshops, mentorship, and hands-on learning, we are nurturing:

🌏 Announcing SEALNet Summer Projects 2026 🌏

From our very first service project in Vietnam in 2005, SEALNet has carried one belief forward: leadership is built through service, rooted in community, and sustained across generations. This summer, we’re proud to continue that tradition as SEALNet returns to Thailand, the Philippines, and Cambodia, working alongside local communities and a new generation of Project Leaders committed to service leadership.

✨ Project Cambodia 2026 – Whispers of the Hearts
Led by Helen Sam & Channita Ching
Creating inclusive spaces where children with disabilities are heard, supported, and connected.

✨ Project Thailand 2026 – Empowering Futures
Led by Vivian Pattalo & Marisa Yapangku
Equipping ethnic youth in Chiang Rai with financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and community-rooted leadership.

✨ Project Philippines 2026 – Project Petal
Led by Brelyn Mae Belmores & Reian Tamayo
Centering healing, mental well-being, and peacebuilding among youth affected by conflict and displacement.

From 2005 to 2026, the SEALNet journey continues, across borders, across generations, and always grounded in service leadership. 💛

Stay tuned as we share more from each project and the leaders behind them.

💙 Thank You, Justine 💙

As Justine steps down from her role as a SEALNet Board Member, we want to express our deep gratitude for her leadership, care, and steady support of the SEALNet community.

In her words:
“As my time on the SEALNet Board winds down, I am filled with much gratitude. My journey started in 2018 while I was living and working in Viet Nam. That summer, I joined the Indonesia Project and instantly appreciated the sense of belonging, commitment to learning, and overall feeling of joy that the summer projects and the SEALNet community had.

Now, 7 years later, I am so humbled to have been part of the journey thus far. Joining the board in early 2020, I hadn't known the life-changing global shift COVID-19 would bring. In those tumultuous times the SEALNet community held firm to our core beliefs of servant leadership, community, and change making. Much gratitude to my fellow Board members who continue to stay involved, Jack, as the first Executive Director, and all of the alumni who pour their hearts and support in to ensuring SEALNet remains agile and thrives.”

Thank you, Justine, for all that you’ve given to SEALNet and for the impact you’ve made across our network. You’ll always be part of the SEALNet story. 🌏✨

✨ Welcome Yuth to SEALNet ✨

We’re excited to welcome Yuth to the SEALNet Board of Directors.

"My name is Vongrathayuth Hingphith, or Yuth for short. I was born and raised in Cambodia, and I am currently a leadership studies instructor at the University of Minnesota. My background has been within the realms of teaching and learning, while exploring how social justice and socialization plays a role in leadership identity development.

SEALNet Project Vietnam 2014 was my first exposure to the concepts of servant leadership and an introduction to showing up as my authentic self. This inspired me to lead my own SEALNet Project Vietnam 2015, then continue my journey as an organizer for SEALNet Leadership Retreat (2016, 2017, 2018), and SEALNet Youth Leadership Summit (2016, 2017). It was also a wonderful experience to professionally mentor multiple SEALNet Summer Projects (PC16-SR, PM17-TG, PP18, PV19) and the Youth Leadership Summit (YLS20-SOM, YLS24).

At this point, I believe SEALNet is a magnet that continually draws me back. One of the main reasons for this is the development of a leadership mindset and identity, which is uniquely different for each and every SEALNutters member. This continuous evolution surprises and inspires me at the same time. We may never fully understand why we keep returning to SEALNet, but it is undoubtedly one of the most rewarding experiences. My goal is to preserve the history of learning and development within organizations while exploring and co-creating new ways to meet the evolving needs for growth moving forward!

Fun fact, my SEALNet nickname at this point is Panda! Hahahaha, I believe it's because I give warm hugs after good SEALNet activities!"

✨ Welcome Aiden to SEALNet ✨

We’re excited to welcome Aiden to the SEALNet Board of Directors.

"My name is Aiden, though my SEALNet friends know me as Anh or Na. I was born and raised in Vietnam and am currently working in the U.S., splitting my time between PE operations and an accounting services business.

I began my SEALNet journey in 2016 as a mentor and Head of Fundraising for PC2016. Since then, I’ve remained involved primarily in finance and fundraising-related initiatives.

I continue to stay involved, and chose to become a board member, because I deeply believe in SEALNet’s mission to inspire the next generation of service leaders in Southeast Asia. I see this as one of the most effective and resource-efficient ways to create meaningful, both direct and indirect, positive impact across the region. As a board member, I plan to focus on improving SEALNet financial resources as well as alumni’s engagement.

One fun fact about me: I have a poodle whom I love and spoil far too much - as evidenced by the photo."

✨ Welcome Veronica to SEALNet ✨

We’re excited to welcome Veronica to the SEALNet Board of Directors.

"I’m Veronica Baguio, from Cebu Philippines, and I’m currently based in Manila. I am an educator, trainer and facilitator. I am also a social entrepreneur promoting Filipino traditional artistry through clothing.

I was a project mentee during Project Philippines 2011 and 2012 in Cebu when I was a high school student. I later served as a mentor for Project Myanmar 2017, then joined the Youth Leadership Summit in Bangkok in the same year. I applied and was accepted to be a Project Leader and led Project Philippines 2018 on Mental Health, and I also joined the SEALNet Leadership Retreat in Bali that year. In 2019, I joined the Leadership Retreat in Taunggyi and later on served as one of the organizers of the Youth Leadership Summit in Phnom Penh. I also joined the team that conducted the YLS Special Online Modules in 2020 and was a Professional Mentor for Project Philippines 2020. During this time I served as Co-President of SEALNet and worked on knowledge management. Most recently, I was a Professional Mentor for Project Philippines 2025 on disability inclusion.

I stay in SEALNet because is one of spaces where leadership is practiced with depth, grounded in service, reflection, and mentorship, and where relationships truly endure beyond programs.
My goal as a board member is to help strengthen organizational systems, leadership development, and long-term sustainability.

One fun fact about me is that I have been to 9 out of 11 ASEAN countries!"

[A personal update from Jack]

Dear SEALNet Community,

After much reflection, I’m sharing a personal update: I plan to step down as Executive Director of SEALNet in Spring 2026.

This is not an easy note to write. I feel both sad and deeply proud: sad to be preparing to leave a role that has shaped me, and proud of what we’ve built together.

Serving as SEALNet’s inaugural Executive Director in 2024–2025 has been my immense privilege. Together, during a period of rebuilding and renewal, we launched four Service Leadership Projects across Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam, rebuilt internal teams, revitalized alumni engagement, and expanded support from alumni and friends across Southeast Asia.

Looking ahead, I’m hopeful and excited for SEALNet’s next chapter under new leadership, with a renewed Board and meaningful plans for 2026. I hope to stay connected as a volunteer and fellow alum, potentially offering support when helpful and as my availability allows. I am also committed to working with the Board of Directors and the prospective Executive Director to ensure a smooth and thoughtful transition.

Thank you to our alumni, project leaders, participants, partners, donors, board members, and friends for your trust, your generosity, and your belief in SEALNet.

With pride, gratitude, and hope for what lies ahead,
Jack Lam
Executive Director, SEALNet
