On January 1, 2027, Florida's SB 1134 takes effect, and our culture is on the line. 📚

Under this law, cities and counties can no longer fund, promote, or proclaim many of the observances our communities hold dear, from Black History Month to Haitian Flag Day to Caribbean American Heritage Month. Local officials who don't comply risk removal from office, and cultural institutions like Island SPACE Caribbean Museum are already losing support.

Swipe through to learn what the law prohibits, who it affects, and what you can do. ➡️

Honoring legacy, building community, and carrying the work forward. ✊🏾

Members of the ASALH South Florida Branch gathered for our 2026 Annual Founder’s Day celebration at the Tower Club in collaboration with Black in Business. As we honor the legacy of Dr. Carter G. Woodson, we are reminded that preserving Black history is not passive work—it requires study, stewardship, community, and action.

Woodson’s vision continues to challenge us to protect our stories, deepen our knowledge, and ensure that Black history remains a living force in shaping our present and future.
