Last week, Community Land Trust of Palm Beach County broke ground at Davis Commons, thanks to a loan from South Florida Community Land Trust, financing from Solar and Energy Loan Fund - SELF, support from our partners Florida Community Loan Fund and Enterprise Community Partners, and an initial investment from JPMorgan Chase & Co.

Florida has an additional $740MM in Rental Assistance available. The program will cover up to 15 months of rent and utilities. You can still apply directly to the state if you received local funds, as long as it does not cover the same time period. You must be low-income or unemployed and at risk or behind on your payments.

On December 27th, a group of young children lined the sidewalk in front of our property. They were holding hands eagerly waiting to go to the park, smiling and singing, when, out of nowhere, a driver swerved around a bus and sped onto the sidewalk. This horrific hit-and-run took place at our apartment in Wilton Manors, taking the lives of two children and severely injuring four more - all under the age of 10. Two of the kids live in one of our homes, and the others, were all family members over to visit. Please consider helping this family grieve and recover.

There is one thing that all of the holidays this time of year have in common: hope. Hope in the face of adversity and hope for a brighter future. This is the same hope we at the South Florida Community Land Trust are providing our residents. Hope that they can balance their budget to meet their basic needs. Hope that their children will grow up in a safe neighborhood. And hope that, at the end of the day, they have a place to call home. Thank you to all that have supported us over the last year and allowed us to give the gift of hope to the families we serve.
