Remembrance of Lisa D. Walker
Lisa Diane Walker was born September 26, 1962 at Vandenberg Air Force Base, Lompoc California to her mother Marie Kahler and father Peter Walker. She passed away suddenly from lung cancer after a brief illness on August 28th, 2026 with her family at her bedside.
Lisa, also known as “Feather Forestwalker,” was an avid local bird and wildlife photographer of coastal Mendocino County and deeply cared about the environment. She was well known in the field with other known photographers and donated her time and energy documenting nesting sites of Oystercatchers and Peregrine Falcons and other rare sightings of birds during migration periods through the State Parks survey.
Lisa taught many people in our community about birds and nature, working many years for Critter Care Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation. Her photography was admired by many and featured in several textbooks. She worked as an editor and wrote obituaries for many in our community, making this drafting of her own obituary seem like an impossible task.
Lisa wrote the book on sea glass, and ran the website Forest Walker Productions, where she did graphic design with bird drawings and produced t-shirts. She published her photography as a freelancer at Feathers Fotos where she printed cards and calendars and large prints. She had many talents. She worked in caregiving for In-Home Support Services lending her hand as part of her gift of caring for the disabled. She was always very detailed in all she did and cared about the less fortunate and was always outspoken about those types of issues in society. She was a regular volunteer at First Baptist Church’s Friday Feast soup kitchen.
In her words regarding her art, “I love this form of self-expression, art, whatever the heck you call it. It gets me out there, it brings me into closer contact with Creation and by so doing, the Creator. I pray this shows in my work, but you know what? My hope is truly that someone out there is touched in some way by the way I see things.”
She is survived by her daughter Davina Liberty of Orcas Island, Washington; son Christopher Vargas of Reno, Nevada; her two brothers Callen Walker and Derek Walker, and her niece Larissa Walker. She was predeceased by her son Shannon Fuller, brother Kevin Walker and her parents Marie Kahler and Peter Walker.
Her Celebration of Life will be held at Glass Beach on September 26th meeting in the parking lot at Noon. Wear comfortable shoes and bring a bucket. A Memorial reception will follow at The Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens cliff house at 3:00PM – 5:00PM. A golf cart will be provided for the cliff house at the Botanical Gardens.
Lisa will be forever remembered for all that she did and what she cared for. We will miss you.
