Rather than taking seasonal jobs, a handful of our students took on summer undergraduate research opportunities funded by .J. Murdock Charitable Trust. Chemistry majors Cai Woolsey ’29 and Leo Bala ’27 spent their summer writing code to build computer models with professor Kevin Johnson to show how metal-organic framework materials can better capture carbon dioxide.

One floor above, biology majors Kyle Woodcock ’27 and Ramiro Perez-Guillen ’27 spent the summer peering through microscopes, examining sea anemones that they raised just down the hall with biology professor Katrina Gundlach. Click through to learn more about both groups' projects.

Starting in January 2027, Pacific University's Nonprofit Leadership program will offer professional stackable certificates, making advanced, professional-grade leadership skills more accessible and affordable. Pacific's Nonprofit Leadership certificates were developed specifically to meet the evolving workforce needs of the fast-growing nonprofit sector in Oregon and beyond. Students can earn just the certificates they need, or stack them together to earn a master of nonprofit leadership from Pacific.

Developed in partnership with the Nonprofit Association of Oregon — and featuring active nonprofit professionals as faculty members — Pacific’s Nonprofit Leadership program provides students with the skills they need to lead the more than 29,000 nonprofit organizations that operate in Oregon.

Ally Hammond '26 — the second-fastest 100-meter hurdler in NCAA Division III history — was recently selected as the Northwest Conference’s 2026 Woman of the Year by the Northwest Conference. She's the first Pacific student-athlete to win the award since its inception in 2009.

Pacific University Boxers

Hammond won three events at the 2026 Northwest Conference Track and Field Championships and was third at the 2026 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships. She leaves Pacific as the school record-holder in 10 individual events.
