🌱 The Food Pantry Garden is growing again!
The Food Pantry Garden at Taste & See Local Food Bank has been an idea in the works for several years, and some wonderful community members have already put time and effort into helping prepare the space. Now, we're excited to be moving the project forward with a renewed plan, a committed leading team including a permaculture designer, and a seed grant to help us get started.
Our vision is to create a productive garden that provides fresh food for local food banks while also serving as a living classroom for our community—demonstrating practical, affordable ways to grow food, build healthy soil, conserve water, support wildlife, and work with nature.
This week marked the beginning of our next phase. 🌱
At our first work party, volunteers helped lay cardboard and bark chips out for paths, prepped garden beds, and cleared out a tangle of briars and branches. There's still a lot of work ahead, but it was exciting to see the project moving forward again!
We're grateful to everyone who has helped with this project along the way. Every bit of work has brought us closer to the garden we envision, and we're excited to build on that foundation with a team and plan that can carry the project forward.
There’s a place for everyone in this garden! 🌱 At our last work party, our volunteers ranged from 2 years old to their mid-80s. There are lots of ways to help, and we'll need all kinds of people and abilities as the garden grows.
