For Immediate Release

All commercial Grand Canyon river trips currently on the water are operating on schedule and our guests and guides are all safe and accounted for. While Phantom Ranch, Boat Beach, the North Kaibab Trail, and the Black and Silver Bridges remain closed following the flash flooding near Bright Angel Creek, we can confirm the main stem of the Colorado River is open and all river commercial operations are continuing without disruption. All exchange trips are able to operate from Pipe Creek.

Immediately following the flood the evening of August 29th, the National Park Service chose to temporarily close the Colorado River until they could assess it was safe for river trips to proceed. Out of precaution and timing, one outfitter chose to cancel one group that was scheduled to hike in for their river trip the following morning before the Park Service reopened the river later on August 30th.

Our hearts go out to the families and loved ones affected by this tragedy, and we’re deeply grateful to the National Park Service, Arizona DPS, and all responders working around the clock on evacuation and search efforts.

We are thankful to report that all of our trips currently on the river have checked in, and all crew and guests are doing well following the flash flood on Saturday, August 29, in Bright Angel Canyon. None of our trips were in the immediate area when the flood occurred. We have been in satellite communication with each of our crews on the water, and they have all been briefed on the situation and are continuing our trips as planned. We will send them updated information as it becomes available.

All upcoming trips are running as scheduled. If you’re on an upcoming trip and have additional questions, please reach out to us directly.
