Arizona is spending $60 MILLION on border operations — during a budget shortfall. 🚨
The federal government is already funding raids, detention & deportation. Arizona doesn’t need to duplicate it with state dollars.

But it’s not just about immigration. Arizona is building a surveillance state — collecting biometric data, expanding agency information sharing, and integrating directly with ICE field operations. Cochise County is already deploying this technology. Regardless of your politics, that should concern everyone.

We’ll explore some common narratives and, more importantly, we’ll have some fun learning how to disrupt those narratives when you hear them — and get people thinking in a more accurate and positive direction. This event is tailored for non-Native folks who want to step into solidarity with Indigenous leaders who are defending the sanctity of the Peaks. Maebe is a trans non-binary activist, community leader, and advocate in Los Angeles, California, running for California State Senate District 26. They are currently serving as Treasurer and At-Large Representative for the Silver Lake Neighborhood Council in Los Angeles. Upon their election in 2019, they became the first drag queen elected to public office in the United States. In 2022, they became the first openly trans-nonbinary person to advance to a general election for a seat in U.S. Congress, where they earned the support of more than 60,000 voters.

On the SLNC Committee level, Maebe serves as Co-Chair of the Budget & Finance Committee, Co-Chair of the Reimagining Public Safety Committee, and Co-Chair of the Ad-Hoc Committee on Housing and Homelessness for the Silver Lake Neighborhood Council. Professionally, Maebe works as the Program Manager for SELAH Neighborhood Homeless Coalition. Keep Flagstaff Together Opposes ICE Expansion in Northern Arizona After Police Alert

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – March 27, 2026 – Keep Flagstaff Together, a project of Catch Fire Movement, urges property owners not to lease or sell space to ICE amid reports of the agency seeking a permanent presence in Flagstaff and Coconino County.
Yesterday, Flagstaff Police confirmed they learned of "ICE looking at space to station agents within the City of Flagstaff." Keep Flagstaff Together also has credible information on ICE inquiries with Coconino County facilities this year.

A permanent ICE office would further enable racial profiling, expand surveillance, and traumatize immigrant communities in Northern Arizona, where the group works to advance rights and protections. The organization calls on public and private property owners to reject any deals enabling enforcement operations that terrorize the community.

Maria Castillo-Rincon, leader of Keep Flagstaff Together, said: "We urge property owners to resist selling out their humanity for a few bucks. We all deserve to live with dignity and without fear."
Eva Putzova, co-founder and co-Executive Director of Catch Fire Movement, added: "Flagstaff residents: Share tips on ICE negotiations at [email protected]. An ICE presence would harm nearby properties and businesses. Tenants and owners need to know the impacts."

Catch Fire Movement advances a human-rights-centered vision of migration, upholding freedom of movement, the right to stay, and dignity for all, regardless of birthplace, race, class, or status. It rejects dividing immigrants into "good" or "bad" and opposes dehumanizing policies.

Recreational Collonialism with Kyle Boggs

Join us for a conversation with Kyle Boggs, the author of Recreational Colonialism and the Rhetorical Landscapes of the Outdoors. (The book cover photo and the featured wheat paste mural is by Chip Thomas.) As a journalist, Kyle covered the development of Arizona Snowbowl on the San Francisco Peaks, but in his book, he fuses journalism and personal narrative with scholarly research. In illuminating the striking ways that settler imaginaries are accommodated, performed, and sustained in the everyday, Kyle offers a powerful reminder that even during leisure activities, complex webs of power control who can access resources and land and who has the right to protect histories and cultures.
