When we asked the girls what they wanted to spend their hard-earned cookie funds on, one of their answers was simple: beach camping. And this weekend, they got exactly that plus so much more.
We spent the weekend at North of Highland Campground on Cape Cod, with a trail leading right to Head of the Meadow Beach, and packed the weekend with the kind of adventures that are hard to recreate anywhere else. We hiked 3 miles, explored, caught crabs, cooled off in an estuary, and made our way to Race Point Lighthouse for a picnic lunch.
But Saturday night was the real highlight. With a permit in hand, we had our very first beach fire at Race Point Beach! The girls played games, made sβmores, and watched seals swimming mere feet away as the sun slowly sank into the ocean. The sunset was honestly one of the most beautiful any of us can remember seeing - and once it got dark, the stars came out in full force.
Sunday brought a slower morning and one last adventure before heading home. At the Cape Cod National Seashore Province Lands Visitor Center, the girls sat on the deck overlooking the ocean for a ranger-led program about the history of the National Seashore and its life-saving stations. They were then officially sworn in as Junior Rangers after having completed all the steps (workbook, visiting 2 sites, and a ranger-led program), earning a badge and special patch for their vests.
And, naturally, no trip to the Cape would be complete without some time in Provincetown, where we shopped, had lunch, grabbed ice cream, and did our best to let the traffic heading home calm down.
What makes weekends like this so special is knowing that the girls earned these experiences themselves. They sold cookies, made the choice about how they wanted to spend their funds, and turned those dollars into a weekend full of adventure, learning, independence, and memories theyβll hopefully carry with them for a very long time.
This is girl-led, and this is what cookie money can do π π
