Thankfully the Academy Building has been able to have some much needed repair work tended to these past few weeks due to the CPC money we were awarded. In the process of removing the clapboards they discovered extensive rot on the east side of the building and were able to repair this before the new shingles went up!
Here is the Academy building over 100 years ago clad in shingles.
The new shingles are white cedar and have been dipped in a preservative to lengthen their life. This will eliminate the need to repaint the siding every few years.

Our historic buildings attract visitors and make our town a place where people want to live and invest because we are not just anywhere. Please stay tuned for events at the Academy Building for the 2026 Summer and Fall months.

What a Year for the Fairhaven Historical Society!
Because of your generosity and continued support, we were able to accomplish so much for Fairhaven this year. Here are a few of the ways.

• Awarded two $1,500 scholarships to Fairhaven students continuing their education

• Carefully selected and professionally restored a few cherished pieces of historic furniture in our museum through a genorous grant from the Fairhaven Colonial Club. This is important to help preserve Fairhaven’s story for generations to come

• Curated and presented “Where Did Fairhaven Eat?”, an exhibition at the Museum in the Academy Building celebrating Fairhaven’s restaurants of the past

• Welcomed award-winning author Nathaniel Philbrick to Town Hall for a special talk on In the Heart of the Sea, his book about the whaleship Essex

• Hosted our annual “Deck the Door” holiday decorating contest, awarding three homes with local gift certificates as a thank you for helping make Fairhaven festive and beautiful during the holiday season

These programs and projects are possible because you believe in preserving Fairhaven’s history, supporting education, and strengthening our community. We are deeply grateful for your commitment and generosity.

As we plan for the year ahead, we hope you’ll consider continuing your support with a donation. Your gift allows us to protect our collections, offer meaningful programs, and share Fairhaven’s rich history with residents and visitors alike.

Thank you for being such an important part of the Fairhaven Historical Society.

Please help us close out 2025 strong!

The Shepherd Center for the Arts presented an original play by Fairhaven Historical Society board member Beth Luey on Friday, November 15. Twain and Rogers: In Their Own Words, produced and directed by Fairhaven High School graduate Kiah Allaire, attracted a sell-out crowd. The audience gave the actors--Gary Sousa, Allie Goodman, and Ron Biever--a standing ovation. The play was presented as a benefit for the Historical Society.

We are happy to continue this tradition and look forward to all the beautiful entries to come!
