LibertyLand Axolotl Rescue Founded in 2024, LLAR is the first and largest 501(c)(3) registered nonprofit axolotl rescue in the US.

Our mission is to educate the public about proper axolotl care, and to rehabilitate and responsibly rehome axolotls in need.

Alakazam, or Allie for short, is curious, charismatic, and always ready to interact. His favorite hobbies?
👉 Chasing fingers across the glass like it’s the most important mission of the day
👉 Watching TV with genuine interest
👉 Investigating anything happening outside his tank

He even has a fun claim to fame: Allie once served as the long‑distance, unofficial mascot for an Alaskan Girl Scout troop! He never lived in Alaska, but he brought plenty of joy from afar and became their tiny amphibian ambassador.

Right now, Allie is working on passing a few small stones seen on his x‑ray. Once he’s finished, he’ll be ready for adoption—so let’s cheer him on while he enjoys his salmon feasts!

Quick reminder about keeping tank temps steady 🍂

Axolotls rely on stable water temperatures to stay healthy. As fall settles in, daytime warmth, cool nights, and heating systems turning on can make tanks swing several degrees in a short period—and axolotls feel every bit of that. Temperature changes affect their metabolism, appetite, gills, and overall stress levels.

The goal isn’t simply “cold water.” ❄️
The goal is consistent water. 💦

A tank that stays at 66°F all week is safer than a tank bouncing between 60°F at night and 70°F during the day. Stability supports axolotls' immune system, reduces stress, and helps everyone stay comfortable.

Here’s what helps keep things steady:
🗓 Daily temperature checks to catch swings early
🌤 Keeping tanks out of direct sunlight to prevent sudden spikes
💨 Avoiding drafts and vents during heating season
🌡 Using a reliable thermometer for accurate readings
🔅 Maintaining a stable room temperature so the tank follows suit

If your tank shifts more than 2°F in a day, your axolotl is likely experiencing stress—even if they look fine on the surface. Temperature stability is one of the simplest ways to support their long‑term health.

Keep it steady. Keep it safe. Their bodies will do the rest. 🫶
