A recent New Jersey Monitor article highlights the continuing challenges facing New Jersey’s youth mental health system, including the gaps and barriers families encounter when seeking care.
The Quality Institute’s new Children’s Mental Health Mapping report is designed to bring greater clarity to this complex landscape. Through this work, we examined how children and families access mental health care in New Jersey, including available services, entry points, eligibility requirements, and areas where the system can be better coordinated.
The report identifies where the system is functioning well, as well as where gaps, duplication, and disconnects create unnecessary challenges for families, providers, educators, and decision-makers.
Improving children’s mental health care requires a clear understanding of the system as it exists today. This mapping report provides a foundation for strengthening access, coordination, and quality across New Jersey.
