Visitor of the day! This female cicada killer takes her well-earned prize to her nest to feed her larvae.

This young lady was determined even though she seemed a little off track for most of her journey back to the nest. Either that, or she was just showing off her strength and her trophy.

"Build it and they will come." Wednesday's amazing visitor of the day! Hummingbirds LOVE cardinal flowers so we were sure to include them in the pollinator gardens.

It's thrilling to see the increased biodiversity at the two gardens. Be sure to visit and enjoy the benefits of the ecological restoration. Don't forget to take a Chronolog picture as part of our citizen science research project.

Today's visitor of the day! (Look high up to the right of the tree.)

This hawk was originally perched on one of our insect hotels right alongside the trail. He spent a lot of time at the meadow and wasn't bothered by us working at the pollinator gardens.

He gifted us with two (failed) hunting attempts that were a wonder to see despite his coming up empty-taloned.

Not the best pics (taken from a respectful distance with a phone), but it was cool to have this feathered visitor for company.

Join us for a Bat Walk & Talk on Friday, July 31st at 7:30 pm.

Register by completing the waiver with the QR code. (Space is limited.)

The event is open to participants 16 years and older. (16 & 17 year olds require a guardian.)

A minimum cash donation of $8 is appreciated but not required. (But it's super appreciated!! 😊)

🦇 Discuss the impacts of urbanization and associated light pollution on bat activity.
🦇 Discover the benefits bats provide to both humans and the ecosystem.
🦇 Use cool technology to hear bat sounds and identify our flighted visitors!

WOW! Just - wow! A special thank you and congratulations to Eagle Scout Oliver C. of Troop 166 (and 20) for his amazing work towards the completion of the Hot Pockets pollinator patch project.

Friends, fun, collaboration, and lots (LOTS) of sweat brought this project to completion.

We've got bird boxes, insect hotels, and native plants galore! ❤️ 🦋 🌈

Watching this project grow is a breeze with the culminating project component of the Chronolog post installation. Thanks to the shared efforts of Oliver's fundraising and SOAR's sponsorship, this tech will be able to support the project for the next year.

Be sure to stop by Emerson Meadow at Demarest Nature Center and snap a pic with the Chronolog. See the time-lapse video (https://www.chronolog.io/site/SOR101) as the garden progresses throughout the seasons. Be a citizen scientist and contribute to the visual data.

This is the epitome of community and collaboration for conservation!

We again thank for the grant that facilitated much of this project.
