WHO WE ARE

Hub.UP is a group of student practitioners who challenge—and disturb— normalized urban processes. We aim to provide a platform for collaboration between those who design, those who build, and those who use the city every day. By creating a space for dialogue, research, education, and tactical intervention, we experiment with various forms of urban practice. Our engagements are public a

nd designed to foster reciprocal exchanges of knowledge. As active change makers, we participate in and contribute to dynamic, interdisciplinary urban practices.

The Long Read: When Ada Colau was elected mayor of Barcelona, she became a figurehead of the new leftwing politics sweeping Spain. The question she now faces is a vital one for the left across Europe – can she really put her ideas into practice?

Theories of Urban Practice Seminars will host Pau Faus, a visual artist and documentary filmmaker and NYC-based activist Rob Robinson. Their discussion will be around Pau Faus’ latest documentary Ada for Mayor about Barcelona’s activist Mayor Ada Colau’s one year, from her time spent organizing the anti-eviction fight in Barcelona to the day she is sworn-in as its Mayor. The importance of the work and both Pau and Rob’s conversation is related to Barcelona’s experience in providing a new citizen platform, a historic victory illustrative of the political changes taking place in Southern Europe. As both of the urban programs (MA TUP and MSc DUE) are focusing on various forms of activism and how these actions can be translated into democratic ways of representation, Barcelona’s example is very crucial to discuss particularly very relevant for the current political climate. https://www.facebook.com/events/1790220117968533/
