💔 Think about this…

A child with cancer may experience more sedation during their first year after diagnosis than the average adult experiences in an entire lifetime.

Behind every procedure is a child who should be playing, laughing, and growing up, not learning how to be brave in a hospital.

At the Peter T Foundation, we work to bring these children smiles, comfort, memories, and hope, and remind families they are not alone. ❤️

🤍 When Grief Takes Everything, You Learn to Breathe Again… One Day at a Time.
There are moments in life that divide everything into before and after.
Losing a child is one of them.
You lose the future you imagined, the ordinary moments you once took for granted, and a part of yourself you can never get back. The world keeps moving, even when yours has completely stopped. And somehow, you have to learn how to breathe again, how to wake up each morning, and how to live in a world that no longer feels the same. 💔
Grief brings sadness, but it can also bring anger. Anger at how unfair life can be. Anger at the things that should never happen to a child. Anger that love, prayers, and hope are sometimes not enough to change the ending.
And for a long time, you may wonder what to do with all that pain.
Sharing Peter’s story and creating the Peter T Foundation became a way to turn some of that pain into purpose. Not because the hurt disappeared, and not because helping others makes losing Peter any easier. But because I needed to believe that something good could still grow from the most heartbreaking chapter of my life.
Perhaps we can turn our anger into advocacy, heartbreak into kindness, and the love for Peter into something that continues to make a difference. 🎗️
We cannot always choose what life takes from us, but sometimes we can choose what we do with the pain it leaves behind.
If you are grieving, you don't have to turn your pain into something meaningful today. You don't have to be strong every day. Sometimes, simply getting out of bed and taking another breath is enough.
And when you are ready, perhaps your story can become a light for someone walking through their darkest days.
Ours is still a story of loss. But it is also a story of love, of Peter, and of the kindness we hope to leave behind in his name. 🤍

Because grief may change us forever, but love gives us a reason to keep going.

New fundraiser alert! Come join us at the Outback Steakhouse in Wayne NJ from November 16-19, 2026. We have tickets available that are $20 a person and a large portion of that goes right to the Peter T Foundation!

*The tickets purchased are for dine in or takeout on Nov 16-19 only at the Outback on Berdan Ave in Wayne NJ
*Tickets are for a limited menu, which is shown on the photo included. No substitutions please!

Over the last few months, something truly beautiful has happened at the Peter T Foundation. 🤍
Peter’s friends have reached out to join our mission, creating fundraisers, sharing our message, and talking about the childhood friend they loved and continue to remember.
Daniela, Mia, and Brooke, my heart melts when I see you remembering Peter, sharing his story, and keeping his infectious personality alive through your kindness and actions. As Peter’s mom, there are no words to describe how much this means to me. ❤️

💛 MEET LAYLA — A FIGHTER, A SURVIVOR, AN INSPIRATION 💛

Today, we want you to meet Layla. 🌟

At just 8 years old, Layla was diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma, and in an instant, her family’s world was turned upside down.

Her childhood became filled with treatments, hospital stays, and surgeries. Layla endured 10 months of chemotherapy, followed by a major 14-hour surgery to remove part of her tibia and growth plate, along with multiple additional surgeries to rebuild her leg. 💔

In December 2023, Layla finished chemotherapy and received the incredible news that she was cancer free. 🎉💛

But finishing treatment doesn't always mean the journey is over.

Layla continues to face the lasting effects of cancer treatment. She struggles with walking, has a significant leg-length difference, and requires ongoing physical therapy and orthopedic care.

And yet, she keeps going. 💪

Watching Layla work so hard to regain something many of us take for granted, simply walking, has been heartbreaking, but also incredibly inspiring.

Every step forward means more independence.
Every step means more confidence.
Every step brings her closer to simply being a kid again. 💛

At the Peter T Foundation, we believe supporting a child with cancer means supporting the child beyond treatment, helping families create memories, find hope, and navigate the challenges that continue long after the hospital doors close.

💛 Recognizing Childhood Cancer Awareness Month 💛

At the September 29th Council Meeting, Mayor Cristina Cutrone and the Fair Lawn Borough Council presented a proclamation recognizing September 2026 as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

The proclamation was presented to the family of Peter Tyszko, whose legacy continues through the Peter Tyszko Foundation. The Foundation works to create joyful experiences for children and families facing cancer, carrying forward the happiness Peter brought to those around him.

Also in attendance to show her support was Kaylee Wan, a childhood cancer survivor.

During Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, we remember the children who have lost their lives to cancer, honor those who continue to fight, and recognize the families, caregivers, advocates, and organizations who support them every step of the way.

The Borough of Fair Lawn is proud to stand with families affected by childhood cancer and help raise awareness, hope, and support throughout our community. 💛

This weekend brought heartbreaking sadness to our Peter T Foundation family. We lost Mick, and our hearts ache for his family and everyone who loves him. 💔

Behind our mission is Peter, our son, our love, and the reason PTF exists. When we lose another child, that grief touches the deepest part of our hearts. There are no words that can explain the pain of a life cut far too short or the emptiness left behind.

Mick was part of our PTF family, and he will always hold a place in our hearts. To his family: we are grieving with you and holding you close with love.

We remember you, Mick. You mattered. You were loved. You will never be forgotten. 🎗️🤍

💛 Bringing Smiles to Families, Meet Nikolas

At the Peter Tyszko Foundation, we know that sometimes the most meaningful gift we can give a family is a chance to step away from hospitals, treatments, and worry even if only for a little while.

Today, we want you to meet Nikolas. 💛

Nikolas is still going through treatment. It has been almost 2½ years, with one relapse after another and very little time away from treatment. His most recent round of chemotherapy and immunotherapy in August was especially difficult. His doctors ultimately made the decision to stop chemotherapy because his body could no longer tolerate it. He is now continuing with immunotherapy alone.

While it has been better for him than chemotherapy, there are still many side effects, and some days are incredibly painful.

But Nikolas continues to show incredible strength. He keeps pushing forward, one day and one treatment at a time. ❤️‍🩹

Because of the support provided by our foundation Nikolas and his family were able to take a much-needed family cruise to Bermuda right before school started. 🚢🌴

For a little while, there were no hospital visits. No treatment schedules. Just family time.

They enjoyed the cruise with their children and grandparents, laughed, explored, relaxed, and made memories together. The kids had an amazing time and so did the adults. Most importantly, they were able to disconnect from cancer for a moment and simply be a family. ❤️

After returning home, Nikolas continued treatment. Another round is scheduled for the end of October, followed by scans and a reevaluation of what comes next.

For now, they are taking it one treatment, one day, and one memory at a time.

This is why we do what we do.
