It takes courage to stand together and do the right thing for our community, even when it's unpopular.

That’s exactly the spirit members of Local 109 and 109-E brought to the front lines as they rallied in support of the Snohomish County Transportation Benefit District.

At the heart of our advocacy was Nathan Howard, who spoke truth to power. He reminded county leaders that while “nobody likes car tabs,” this proposal is the secure bridge we need to keep Snohomish County moving forward. His call for courage resonates with all of us: Will we stand up to protect our public services, empower our fellow public workers, and secure our vital infrastructure?

The stakes for our union family are clear:

Securing 34 staff positions

Maintaining 14 ongoing construction projects

Protecting $66 million in grant funding

This is about more than a fee. It’s about keeping our roads safe, preserving good union jobs, and ensuring our communities stay connected. When we speak with one voice, we empower public service.

Council 2 is proud to stand in solidarity with our members who spoke up for working families, strong infrastructure, and a more equitable future for Snohomish County.

Join us in supporting the workers and public works projects that keep our county running.

Corrections Week: This week is also National Corrections Officers Week (May 3-9) where we celebrate our members who show up every day to keep our communities safe.

We deeply appreciate the hard work and unwavering dedication of these essential public servants. AFSCME Council 2 is proud to advocate for corrections workers across Washington State, and we will continue to fight side by side for legislation that recognizes PTSD as a workplace injury and expands interest arbitration rights.

Together, we are empowering public service and securing a stronger future for all our members.

Local 275 members are standing strong for equitable pay and their hard-earned rights! 💪Here are some powerful moments from the 4-21-2026 Grays Harbor County Board of County Commissioners meeting. Local 275 members wore their Council 2 shirts to work that day to show unity and support for the bargaining team and all county employees. Many more sent personal letters demanding a fair settlement for the two GHC workers' contracts. Staff representative Aaron Cole spoke passionately on behalf of all 250 represented employees, highlighting their daily dedication, the burden of rising costs, and the urgent need for equitable pay that honors experience and seniority. We will not back down in the face of the County's attempts to strip away seniority rights just to secure a modest cost-of-living increase. Your solidarity strengthens our collective voice! Stand with us as we fight for what we've earned! ✊
