It is a democratic union providing a real voice for its members through active participation and professional representation. At last week's international Convention in Chicago, Patrick Moran was elected AFSCME International President and Nicole Pollard was elected Secretary-Treasurer. Photos by Khalid Naji-Allah.

Moran previously spent 14 years as Maryland Council 3 President. Winning collective bargaining rights for 15,000 previously excluded public employees was one of many Council 3 victories under Moran's leadership.

Pollard was previously AFSCME International Executive Assistant to former President Lee Saunders. She has more than three decades of experience in the labor movement and has served as legal counsel to three different international unions.

📢 You heard the man!
He was one of multiple community members to show up at an Olympia City Council meeting to encourage them to keep their control of the city's waste collection instead of giving it to a private company that will have incentive to profit over community needs.

Staff Representatives Chuck, Aaron, and union members at an Olympia City Council meeting speaking against utility privatization.

Olympia City Council is considering giving their control of their waste removal over to a private contractor. It would mean local decision-making about the utility, including who keeps their jobs and what customers must pay for the service, could be influenced by corporate trash haulers who might not know the community's needs.
