Statement jewelry for people who plan ahead.

The Legacy Society lapel pin is small, gold, and very good at starting conversations. It goes to people who have included the Community Foundation of Southwest Indiana in their estate plans or made another qualifying planned gift.

Members also receive invitations to gatherings and updates on the impact of planned gifts. Prefer to stay anonymous? That works too. Recognition is always your choice.

Your family gets the house. Your fund gets the IRA.

Here is why many donors divide their assets this way. Family members who inherit an IRA may owe income tax on it. A charity does not. That makes a retirement account a tax-smart gift to a fund, while your loved ones receive other assets, like your home.

It takes one beneficiary form from your account provider, and your financial advisor can walk you through it.

Homework, but the good kind: two small assignments.

1. One sentence in your will or trust. Ask your attorney to add the Community Foundation of Southwest Indiana, and your fund can keep giving back for generations. Not sure what to say? We have sample wording your attorney can start from.

2. One beneficiary form for your life insurance policy. It takes about as long as ordering a coffee, and your advisor can walk you through it.

Attorneys and advisors handle this all the time.

Already finished the assignment? Let us know with our Legacy Gift Intent Form. It is not a legal obligation, and you can change it anytime.

Somewhere in your house, there is a blender two people will fight over, a cast iron skillet with a family legacy, and 15 boxes of holiday decorations for every season. Your estate plan can settle all of that.

It can also help the fund you started grow and give even more, long after the blender retires. Is your fund in your estate plans yet? All week, in honor of National Estate Planning Awareness Week, we’re making it easy.

What's your giving style? Fall Festival Edition: The Ferris Wheel 🎡

If you answered F on Monday's quiz, this one's you.

The Fall Fest has wrapped up for another year. You might not have had a chance to ride the Ferris wheel, but you know it will be there when you come back.

A planned gift works a little like that. You make the decision today through your estate plan, and your gift keeps supporting Southwest Indiana long after you've stepped off.

Take the long view. Learn more at cfswi.org.

What's your giving style? Fall Festival Edition: The More the Merrier

If you answered E on Monday's quiz, this one's you.

You're the one who rounds up the kids, the cousins, and the neighbor's kid, because you want everyone to have a night they'll remember.

A Scholarship Fund works the same way. It gives a student the chance to take the next step, and that opportunity stays with them long after the lights go down on Franklin Street.

What's your giving style? Fall Festival Edition: The Category Crawler

If you answered D on Monday's quiz, this one's you.

You don't pick a booth. You pick a craving. Say it's pulled pork: on a bun, on a slider, piled in a tray. You'll track it down wherever it's being served.

A Field of Interest Fund works the same way. You choose the cause you care about, like the arts, education, health, or youth, and the Community Foundation helps direct your gift to the organizations doing that work across Southwest Indiana.

One craving, many ways to serve it. What's the one thing you'll eat anywhere you find it? Tell us below! 👇
