Sigma Chi Foundation Founded in 1939, a charitable and educational organization supporting Sigma Chi and its members DID YOU KNOW?

The Sigma Chi Foundation provides more support to our members than any other Greek-letter organization (Fraternity or Sorority). And despite the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, we remain at the forefront providing value to our members across North America. BE THE DIFFERENCE

Sigma Chi’s need for support from the Sigma Chi Foundation is greater today than at any point in the Fraternity’s history. As Greek-letter organizations continue to combat the stigma associated with our groups on campus, Sigma Chi is changing the entire landscape through certified leadership educational courses provided by SCLI — including Sigma Chi's new Transformational Leader program — entirely funded and supported by the Sigma Chi Foundation. On top of that, with rising educational costs, more of our brothers are seeking academic scholarship aid and grant support. By supporting the Life Loyal Sig Annual Fund, a specific scholarship or program fund, you can make this possible.

We join our brothers in mourning the passing of Significant Sig Mike Ditka, PITTSBURGH 1961, and honor his remarkable life and leadership.

Known to generations as “Iron Mike” and “Da Coach,” Brother Ditka was a five-time Pro Bowl selection and the first tight end inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He won Super Bowl championships as a player and assistant coach with the Dallas Cowboys before leading the legendary 1985 Chicago Bears to victory in Super Bowl XX. His larger-than-life personality also made him a familiar presence beyond the sidelines through his broadcasting career, memorable commercials and Saturday Night Live’s iconic “Da Bears” Super Fans sketches.

Initiated into the Beta Theta chapter in 1958, Brother Ditka remained connected to Sigma Chi through alumni gatherings and events over the years. In June 2005, he addressed our 150th Anniversary Celebration in Cincinnati, where he was inducted into the Sigma Chi Hall of Fame. He also gave generously to the Foundation’s Annual Fund, helping provide support for the Fraternity's greatest needs.

As we remember Brother Ditka, we share his speech from that celebration with gratitude for all he gave to our brotherhood. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, players, colleagues and brothers as he enters the Chapter Eternal.

Please join us in wishing a very Happy 93rd Birthday to past Foundation Chairman, Governor Emeritus, Order of Constantine Sig and Significant Sig John D. Peterson, INDIANA 1955.

Brother Peterson joined the Foundation’s Board of Governors in 1987 and was honored as Governor Emeritus in May 2025 following 38 years of dedicated service. His tenure was the second-longest in Board history, surpassed only by that of his father, the late 38th Grand Consul, past Foundation Chairman, Order of Constantine Sig and Significant Sig J. Dwight Peterson, INDIANA 1919, who served from 1944 to 1987.

Happy Birthday, Brother Peterson, and thank you for your extraordinary lifetime of leadership, loyalty and service to Sigma Chi!
