“Empathy helps us see things through other people’s perspectives.”

That’s how one of our students describes the first step of Design Thinking. It’s about putting yourself in someone else’s shoes and understanding that what we feel when we look at a situation is our own emotion, not theirs.

For months, students and teachers across Honduras and Guatemala have been practicing empathy as the starting point for every project they build in their communities. This October 21-23, they come together in Copán to learn, build, and grow as a community of innovators. 💡

Last week, Fabretto was at , the Central America Donors Forum, in Guatemala City. The region's leading space for civil society, philanthropy, and business to come together around what matters most. This year's theme: Adaptation in Action.

Our CEO Kevin Marinacci joined a panel on resilience and reinvention, speaking honestly about what it takes to keep a mission alive when the ground shifts beneath you. Brenda Xum, a Ford Foundation IFP Fellow and part of the Fabretto family, delivered her own Lightning Talk on building social change leaders for Central America's future.

Between sessions, partners from across the Comunidad Fabretto network connected, exchanged experiences, strengthened ties, and reaffirmed a shared belief that sustainable change is built together, not in isolation.

We left with more than we came with. 🤝🌱

Education looks different depending on where you stand.

At Asociación Q'eqchi' Xch'ool Ixim in Alta Verapaz, Guatemala, it looks like a harvest, a classroom, a nutrition workshop, a teacher still learning. But it also lives alongside ceremony, family, community, and the traditions that hold everything together.

Danny Tzib works alongside this community every day. His photos won first place in Fabretto's 2026 Contadores de Historias annual storytelling contest.

On International Coffee Day, we're celebrating the youth of Copán, Honduras, who are rewriting what's possible in their communities. ☕

Young people are attending high school in their own community for the first time. They are mapping coffee farms with GPS. And local leaders are now prepared to train others. 🌱

This is what happens when education meets opportunity, and when partners like Mayorga Coffee and BAYAN HN believe in the youth behind their coffee.

For the past 6 months, teachers across Honduras and Guatemala have been training in Design Thinking. For the past 3, their students have been putting it into practice, identifying real challenges in their own communities and designing real solutions.

This October, it all comes together. 📆 From October 21–24, these students and teachers, alongside our partners Fundación ACOES Honduras, BAYAN HN, Educate2Envision, Fundemi Talita Kumi, Un Mundo, Asociación Q'eqchi' Xch'ool Ixim will gather in Copán, Honduras to share what they've built and dive into new hands-on learning: robotics, sustainable farming, and more.
