For more than ninety years the Evanston Art Center has been a major force in bringing together people, art and ideas. One of the oldest and largest visual art centers in Illinois, the Evanston Art Center's mission is to make the visual arts an integral and accessible part of the lives of the diverse audiences in the surrounding communities. The Art Center fulfills this mission through an extensive

offering of visual arts classes, public lectures, changing exhibitions, youth outreach activities, and publications, all of which are designed to engage and enrich the individual and the community. The Art Center was established in 1929 by a group of civic and cultural leaders from the Evanston community. Under her guidance, the Art Center was established and it thrived. Riley felt the true worth of a community could not be measured by economic success alone, but also had to take into consideration a rich cultural life.

A portrait records the spirit of a person or a place. Spirit is not just one fixed thing, but a rich weaving of meanings. White Deer Lake has many faces. It is still and glassy in the morning, shaded from the hot sun in the afternoon, hazy through the smoke of a campfire.

Screen printing is a remarkably fluid way to work. If the color of ink or the line pattern from one print shifts from one assembly to another, the sense of the content can change dramatically.

Call for Artists – "Contemporary Reflections on Tiffany Glass: Light, Color & Form"
January 10 - April 15, 2027. Don't miss this incredible opportunity to display your work alongside Tiffany Stained Glass!

The Evanston Art Center and Richard H. Driehaus Art Exhibition Lending Foundation (AELF) are celebrating a collaboration between our institutions with a special loan exhibition creating a dialogue between historic Tiffany stained glass windows and contemporary artists. Contemporary Reflections on Tiffany Glass: Light, Color & Form will be on view at the EAC from January 10 to April 15, 2027.

Artists working in all media are invited to apply; those working in glass are particularly encouraged.

Artists can respond to any aspect of Tiffany stained glass windows or the general Tiffany stained glass aesthetic that inspires their creativity, including style, media, use of color, light, composition, and the Arts and Crafts and the Art Nouveau art movements in the US.

Are you a high school student preparing for college? Join us on Saturday, September 20, 2026, come to the Evanston Art Center to meet with art college admissions teams, get information, and/or have your art portfolio reviewed before applying to colleges and universities!

Portfolio Review & Informational Meetings are 10 minutes each.

While embracing passion and love, complexities arose when facing religion. I find myself wanting to be embraced by a higher power, yet I am torn by fear of judgment for finding happiness that doesn’t abide by the strict rules religion imposes. My desire is to be loved unconditionally, but the rigid teachings of religion dictate that only a certain type of person is allowed into the kingdom of heaven. Through the use of Catholic symbolism and figurative bodies, I marry the struggle of acceptance and yearning to belong.
