#9/11Memorial - On the 25th Anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the United States Evanston First Responders, the Evanston Police and Evanston Fire Departments, will hold a memorial service at Firefighter's Park.

Will mark a quarter century since the 2001 terrorist attacks.

- To Sgt ERV DeLEON on his retirement from the Evanston Police Department after 31-years. When you read below his extensive contributions are immense. The Evanston Community is most grateful as he was to his fellow men and women who wear the Uniform of the Evanston Police Department. A huge thank you, Sgt DeLEON, in your new Life's Chapter.

Congratulations to Sergeant Erv DeLeon on his retirement from the Evanston Police Department after 31 years of dedicated service! 🎉

Throughout his career, Erv served in a wide variety of roles and assignments, gaining extensive experience across the department. He was a member of SWAT and TAC and served in Investigations, PST, and OGA. He also spent an incredible 17 years with NORTAF, including his final four years as Assistant Supervisor.

Erv’s commitment to the department extended well beyond his regular assignments. He served as a Field Training Officer, Fi****ms Instructor, Accident Investigator, and Control and Arrest Tactics Instructor, sharing his knowledge and experience with countless officers throughout the years. He also served as both a Training Sergeant and an Investigations Sergeant, taking on leadership roles that allowed him to mentor others and help develop the officers around him.

Throughout his 31 years with EPD, Erv became someone others could rely on for his experience, knowledge, and willingness to help. Whether he was responding to a challenging call, working an investigation, training an officer, or leading a team, Erv consistently brought professionalism and dedication to everything he did.

A career in law enforcement is about much more than the years spent wearing a badge. It is about the relationships built, the people helped, the lessons shared, and the lasting impact left on the department and the community. Erv’s career reflects all of those things, and the many officers and colleagues who had the opportunity to work alongside him are better for having learned from his experience.

Thank you, Erv, for 31 years of service to the Evanston community, the Evanston Police Department, and the men and women of EPD. Thank you for your dedication, leadership, friendship, and for everything you have contributed throughout your career. Your presence and experience will surely be missed.

We wish Erv nothing but the absolute best as he begins this next chapter of retirement. We know for sure there will be lots of family time and golf! ⛳

- The Evanston Police Department's COMMUNITY POLICE ACADEMY holding registration for the beginning September session. This FREE course is open to Evanston residents and individuals who work in Evanston. Having been a graduate of Class 47 I personally couldn't recommend more what you'll get from the appreciation of the many departments Our Men and Women who wear the Uniform of the Evanston Police Department. Ever wanted an inside look at how your local police department operates? Applications are now open for the Evanston Police Department's Community Police Academy (CPA)! This free Free FREE, 12-week interactive program gives residents and workers in Evanston a behind-the-scenes look at law enforcement.

Fall Session starts September 1, 2026 and ends November 17, 2026. Classes are held on Tuesdays from 6:00pm to 8:30pm located at Evanston Police Department 1454 Elmwood Ave. Did we mention that the class cost is 100% FREE! 𝗘𝗩𝗔𝗡𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗡, IL - Evanston community members are invited to celebrate National Night Out (NNO) on Tuesday, August 4, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a Block Party outside of Evanston Police Department Headquarters, 1454 Elmwood Avenue.

National Night Out is an annual nationwide community-building campaign that promotes public safety, community partnerships, and neighborhood camaraderie to help make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places.

Hosted by the Evanston Police Department, this free, family-friendly evening will feature food, music, kids' activities, games, NNO giveaways, and more. Community members are encouraged to join in to connect with neighbors and celebrate community partnerships.

As a symbol of unity, residents are also encouraged to turn on their porch lights that evening.

Celebrate National Night Out with the Evanston Police Department! Join us on Tuesday, August 4th for a free, family-friendly evening of connection and community pride. Meet your local officers, explore first responder vehicles, and enjoy food and activities with neighbors!

- Tomorrow, July 22nd, the Evanston Fire Department, in collaboration with the Evanston Police Department and Evanston Firefighters Association Local 742, will conduct a Remembrance Ceremony at Firefigher’s Park at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. The park is located at the southwest corner of Maple Ave. and Simpson St. in Evanston.

The ceremony will honor the lives of fallen Evanston firefighters Marty Leoni, William Craig, George Stiles and fallen Evanston police officers. It will also recognize the many other firefighters and police officers who have lost their lives while performing their duties nationally. The public is invited to attend the ceremony honoring U.S. service members who died while serving their country.
