Life is beautiful chaos during motherhood, and this I why I named my team Dashing Disarray.
It’s no surprise that I am a fierce supporter of 2020 Mom and advocate for MMH through many vehicles including the Tangerine Owl Project.

I'm fundraising for TheBlueDot Virtual Run/Walk supporting our advocacy and awareness work of maternal mental health. Join us and work together to support 2020 Mom and a truly awesome cause.

Don’t wanna walk? No prob, donations to the team are gladly accepted - be an advocate from the comfort of your own couch. :) And invite your friends to help. You all probably know how this works.

The world may be at a standstill, but I'm still determined to make s*&! happen.

Postpartum depression isn’t the only maternal mental health disorder. There are a range of mental health conditions including depression, general anxiety, OCD, psychosis and PTSD. This year because of the COVID crisis more mothers are expected to suffer from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Symptoms include: being hypervigilant (abnormally alert to potential danger), avoidance of anything that reminds the mother of the traumatic event, re-experiencing the traumatic event (in flashbacks, nightmares, intrusive memories), and feeling depressed and/or guilty. Today kicks off Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week! Did you know, up to 1 in 5 women suffer from MMH disorders like postpartum depression? Nearly all of us are facing increased anxiety and distress during the pandemic, but can you imagine giving birth right now? It’s likely that more women will suffer from MMH disorders in 2020 due to the increased stress of COVID-19. According to experts, worries about the COVID pandemic can increase anxiety and worsen mood during pregnancy and the postpartum period, increasing the risk of MMH disorders. More than ever, there is a need to raise awareness of MMH disorders and support pregnant and postpartum women. Learn more about the range of disorders at http://ow.ly/KuHX50zvaBb

This week, you can get involved in the campaign by sharing these daily campaign posts. And, if you are a mom, you can also share photos of your motherhood moments this week so we can illustrate that motherhood is never black and white, it’s often grey, hard, and messy.

, is an opportunity to think about improving maternal health disparities without fear, blame, or shame. We must recognize the strengths of Black Mamas—their motherhood, scholarship, leadership, and research—if we truly hope to end the maternal health crisis. One step to do that?
