💜 Celebrating Impact: Supporting Survivors & Building Safer Communities 💜

As we continue celebrating National Nonprofit Day, we’re highlighting another essential part of the work happening at YWCA Evanston/North Shore—our Domestic Violence Department.

Every day, our team works to support survivors, promote safety, and help individuals and families navigate the challenges of domestic violence with compassion, dignity, and respect. 💜

Through advocacy, education, prevention, and supportive services, our Domestic Violence Department helps create pathways toward safety, healing, and empowerment.

✨ Survivor Support & Advocacy — Providing compassionate, survivor-centered support and helping individuals navigate available resources

🛡️ Safety & Empowerment — Supporting survivors as they identify their needs, explore options, and make decisions about their futures

📚 Education & Prevention — Increasing awareness and understanding of domestic violence and healthy relationships

🤝 Community Partnerships — Working alongside organizations and community members to strengthen support systems for survivors

🌱 Training & Professional Development — Equipping professionals and community members with tools to better understand and respond to domestic violence

This work matters because everyone deserves to feel safe, respected, and empowered. Creating safer communities takes all of us—and it starts with listening, learning, supporting survivors, and taking action.

Get your American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification at YWCA Evanston/North Shore this August! Whether you're starting a new job, building your skills, or looking for a meaningful way to keep your community safe, this course will give you the training you need to get certified.

📅 August 21–23, 2026
🕓 Friday, Aug. 21: 4:00–8:00 PM
🕘 Saturday–Sunday, Aug. 22–23: 9:00 AM–5:00 PM
💻 Approximately 7 hours of online coursework must be completed before the in-person training
💲 Course Fee: $350

This comprehensive course prepares participants with essential lifeguarding, CPR, and emergency response skills through Red Cross training.

Throughout the month, we’ll be sharing the stories and impact behind the programs that make our mission possible.

We’re kicking off the series with LEAP — our financial empowerment programs designed to help people build stronger financial futures. 💰🌱

From helping families save for their children’s future to providing one-on-one financial coaching and practical tools for budgeting, credit, debt, and financial planning, LEAP meets people where they are and helps turn financial goals into achievable next steps.

These programs matter because financial stability is about more than money — it’s about opportunity, security, independence, and the ability to build a future with greater confidence.

A Chicago-based photographer, educator, and creative entrepreneur. She participated in YWCA Chicago's Breedlove Entrepreneurship Program, which helped her fully step into her role as CEO and as a Black woman business owner.

She continues to use photography as a joyful tool for representation, empowerment, storytelling, and connection.
