Stress can affect our physical health, emotional well-being, and ability to manage everyday responsibilities. When caring for a loved one or navigating a difficult season, it can be especially important to recognize when we need a moment to pause.

This National Stress Awareness Day, take time to check in with yourself. A short break, a conversation with someone you trust, or asking for help with daily responsibilities can be meaningful steps toward managing stress.

Remember, caring for yourself is an important part of caring for others.

The early days of grief can feel overwhelming. Even simple tasks can take more effort, and knowing what to do next may not always be clear.

This infographic shares concrete steps that can help you navigate this difficult time from caring for your basic needs and accepting support to giving yourself permission to grieve at your own pace.

There is no single way to grieve, and there is no timeline for how you should feel. Start with what you can manage today, and take things one step at a time.

Meet Susan “Susie” Kennedy, MD, our latest Fellow Spotlight.

Susie attended UNC Chapel Hill’s School of Medicine and is currently an Emergency Medicine resident there. Outside of medicine, she enjoys skateboarding, surfing, and trail running and previously worked as a hairdresser and salon owner.

Through her palliative care training, Susie discovered the importance of slowing down, listening, and making space for the emotions that accompany serious illness.

She hopes to bring that same presence and compassion to every patient and family she serves.
