Today is a beautiful movement created to promote nonprofit fundraising efforts.

The sole purpose of The Honu Family Foundation is to provide monetary endowments, estate planning, and financial advising to families who have a parent on hospice with terminal illness, dependent children at home, and no life insurance policy in place.

Together we can ease the burden of spousal loss.

I made this decision relatively early on in my grieving process. My late husband had fought like hell for 300 days, a brutally relentless battle against DLBC Burkitts-like Triple Hit Lymphoma. I knew from the beginning I would find myself wearing this widow badge. We cried so many tears, braved so many terrifying moments, it was cruel how much cancer had stolen from us. A life, love, friendship, plans, safety, security, time. A few months after his passing, I began to feel empowered by our difficult journey. With the girls watching my every move, I knew I needed to make this decision; find happy moments. It’s impossible to be happy all the time, no matter what you’ve been through, but as I like to remind myself, keep your chin up, so you don’t miss the rainbows that come after the storms.

As a widow with many different feelings, this truly speaks to me. You can add happy & grieving to this list as well. Daniel Tiger taught my children and I that it is possible to feel two opposing feelings at the same time. My heartbreak is where my strength originates. My vulnerability is where I find my courage. My loss will be someone else’s lifeline. I have so much love in this heart of mine and that love is helping me heal the fractures within it.
