VFW Post 1513 We are a group of combat veterans working together to help each other and the community.

The VFW traces its roots back to 1899 when veterans of the Spanish-American War (1898) and the Philippine Insurrection (1899-1902) founded local organizations to secure rights and benefits for their service: Many arrived home wounded or sick. There was no medical care or veterans' pension for them, and they were left to care for themselves. In their misery, some of these veterans banded together and formed organizations with what would become known as the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. After chapters were formed in Ohio, Colorado and Pennsylvania, the movement quickly gained momentum. By 1915, membership grew to 5,000; by 1936, membership was almost 200,000.

Yesterday started with Post Inspection which went very well thanks to the hard work of our Quartermaster Chris and our Post Adjutant Stephen. Then it was off to the American Legion Post 149, Escondido, California to pick up back packs assembled for our vets to take to NCVSD. Thank you to the American Legion Auxiliary, Priscilla and team. It was also very nice to speak to the Legion Commander and team, look forward to speaking to you all again. Then to the storage to deposit the goods and count our blessings. Hope to see you at North County Veterans Stand Down.

Being a part of the organization has been such a blessing to me. John R Simpson Post 1513 and its Auxiliary truly has some amazing people in the fold and backing it from District to State to National. We welcome in our veterans and their families to be an integral part of this organization’s legacy. Happy 127th Birthday to the VFW!
