Park Rangers had a fun morning at Houghton Land Preserve! 🦋

Guest speaker Karen Charnetski taught us about the importance of pollinators and the vital role they play in our ecosystem.

Along the trail, we spotted moths, Monarch butterflies, and bees. We even heard the call of a Pileated Woodpecker! Thank you, Karen, for sharing your knowledge and helping us learn about the many wonders of the natural world! 🐝

Another big thank you to our partner, the Horseheads Family Resource Center for making this program possible!

Join us next Friday at Clute Park, where we'll explore the fascinating world of freshwater habitats. We hope to see you there! 🌊

Another great day with our Park Ranger friends at Steege Hill Nature Preserve! We spotted Spittlebugs, observed Flat-backed millipedes crawling, saw a slug extend its tentacles, and watched a snail glide down a tree trunk.

Do you know the difference between a slug and a snail? Our Park Rangers sure do! To find out, join us next Friday at 10 am at the Houghton Land Preserve.

What a great morning with our Park Ranger friends at Spencer Crest Nature Center!

Today's theme was wildflowers! 🌸

We spotted several species along the trail, including Red Columbine, White Starflower, Wild Geranium, Daisy Fleabane, and Dame's Rocket.

We also discovered woodpecker holes, found a bird's nest made of moss and spider webs hanging from a tree branch, and observed a teeny tiny creature crawling! 🐛

We even decorated our own mini flowerpots and planted a sunflower seed to take home and watch grow!

A big thank you to our friends at the Horseheads Family Resource Center for partnering with us and providing this amazing program for our community!

📅 The Park Rangers program is offered every Friday at 10:00 am throughout the summer and fall, with each program held at a different park location.

Join us next time to explore parks, discover nature, and have some fun outdoors!
