Through community education, advocacy, collaboration and facilitation, we seek to strengthen the efforts of individuals and other organizations in our community that share our vision. Expenses and the work done to support its mission are the responsibility of the members of its board of trustees and other volunteers. We are so excited to celebrate the incredible people and organizations keeping Elmira’s history alive. Please join us in a massive round of applause for this year’s honorees:

🏆 The George L. Howell Advocate Award: Mr. Charlie Hunter
Charlie’s tireless passion and leadership in the Near Westside Neighborhood have been a game-changer for our architectural heritage. Thank you, Charlie, for being such a powerful voice for our community!

Their exceptional stewardship and dedication to restoration and revitalization are helping ensure that Elmira’s beautiful buildings continue to anchor our neighborhoods for generations to come.

Beyond the bricks and mortar, our preservation movement is driven by passionate people. The Advocate Award celebrates the individuals and groups—community leaders, government officials, business owners, or dedicated volunteers—who inspire the protection of our architectural heritage.

If someone in the Elmira region is tirelessly working to save a landmark, educate the community, or influence preservation policy, they deserve this honor!

It's time to recognize those who are the voice for our historic resources. The nomination deadline is February 16, 2026.

The Project Award recognizes sensitive and thoughtful work that brings historic structures back to life. We are looking for projects that exemplify:
✅ Restoration: Accurately returning a building to its historic appearance.
✅ Rehabilitation: Updating a structure for modern use while preserving historic features.
✅ Adaptive Reuse: Converting a historic building for a new, contemporary purpose.

If you or someone you know completed a meaningful preservation project in the Elmira area, don't let their hard work go unnoticed!

We are thrilled to announce that the call for nominations for our 2026 awards is open! For the 13th year, we are honoring the incredible dedication to historic preservation, restoration, and adaptive reuse right here in the Elmira area.

Do you know a local hero or an outstanding project that deserves recognition? We have two categories: 🧱 Project Award: For excellent work on historic buildings or sites. 👤 Advocate Award: For leaders and groups championing preservation efforts.
