Eight sets of teeth were done yesterday with only 6 more to go. These are long, long days, but we had gotten behind on dentals, and that's totally unacceptable. We had intended to get everyone done, but our wonderful vet had a foal emergency (poor baby!), so we've got the last set on 6/1. Horses should have their teeth looked at and managed by a licensed VETERINARIAN annually. Yes, we are aware of people who drive around calling themselves equine dentists. There's no certified educational tract for that, and you must be a licensed vet to use the medications that should be employed during the process. We don't mess around with half-assed stuff here. These horses have survived enough horrors in their lives that they won't ever have to worry about unqualified work here. We take no risks with their lives. And yes, even Rotten got his toofies cleaned up and rasped. No one had anything major to note, but hooks and ramps can cause pain and progress to more serious issues, so annual maintenance is needed. We try to space them out throughout the year for budget management, but no one had been done since before the move, and with 3 that have joined us here, it was way overdue. Thankfully, all is well, and we're getting back on track.
