Thank you to Bev Lamoureux, HVHC Office Manager and Marleen Athorp, HVHC Volunteer for planting bulbs on this brisk morning. They have worked on this area a couple of times already so we will be in for a treat next year when things start to bloom! They are both amazing gardeners. We can’t wait to see things next spring/summer! Exciting!!!

“Grief is like the ocean; It comes in waves; ebbing and flowing. Sometimes the water is calm, and sometimes it is overwhelming. All we can do is learn to swim. “ Vicki Harrison

Our Board of Directors, staff team, and two volunteers came together with our wonderful facilitator, Sam Deeran of Shoebox Collaborations, for our strategic planning retreat to shape our next three-year plan, beginning in January.

As we wrap up our current three-year plan in December, we’re proud of all we’ve accomplished, including increased services, more volunteers, and many new initiatives.

Thank you to everyone who contributed today! We look forward to the next three years as we continue to serve our community and meet its growing needs.

Fall is here and as hard as it is to believe, the holidays are right around the corner. It would be nice if grief stopped for the holidays, but unfortunately it doesn’t. No matter how much we try to cover it up by staying busy and putting a smile on our face trying to do everything we have always done as if nothing has changed, our grief is still there. Navigating the holidays through grief doesn’t have to be done alone.

For this reason we have schedule two grief groups during the holiday season. The holidays can be hard enough but when you throw grief into the mix it can be even more challenging. Some of you may be going through your first holiday season without your person. The year of “firsts” makes us face our grief head on with each and every event and special occasion that takes place. The pain you feel may feel even deeper during this time.

We have an 8-week grief group in Mt. Desert in November and a special 3-session evening group in Ellsworth specific to the holidays, also starting in November. There are others on similar journeys this holiday season. Connecting with others through loss can be comforting and healing and groups offer you a moment to step away from the outside world for the support you need. We hope you will consider joining us.
