Hancock County Emergency Animal Response Team (H.E.A.R.T.)

Hancock County Emergency Animal Response Team (H.E.A.R.T.) Founded in 2008. HEART has as their primary function to support the community during an emergency with animal sheltering of domestic animals.

A CART refers to a Community Animal Response Team. In the event that an emergency overwhelms the communities' resources, they may request the assistance of a CART. Every CART determines what response function they will assist with by adopting by-laws that establish the parameters of how their team will be organized, what role they will have in response involving the rescue or care of animals and w

hat types of animals they are qualified to assist with. They become proficient at their function by fulfilling training requirements and by participating in planned exercises. Many training opportunities exist for team members other than animal sheltering, such as pet first aid and large animal rescue.
