LU IS ON HIS THIRD DOSE OF THE MEDICATION THAT HE NEEDS!!

We are so thankful that Lu is doing better today! First of all, we’re thankful to the family who loves him so very much that they will do anything to help him.

We are thankful to our friend Cindy from Feral Felines of Maine who really took time out of her day to try to help us find medication for him.

Cindy also introduced us to the FIP Global network, which in a few words is a tremendous organization of humans throughout the world that pull together to find medication that’s already been compounded to help save little cat lives who have been diagnosed with FIP.

FIP has been considered a death sentence for years and years. Because of these new medications, many little cats have a chance to survive and even thrive with the proper care and dosage of these special meds.

We are all so very hopeful for Lu. ❤️🤞

It’s hard to believe that this little cat literally has dozens and dozens of people pulling for him right now, perhaps hundreds!

He was a fixture in Winter Harbor for years, and some of the customers and employees at Chase‘s restaurant knew him well.

Lu has been lucky enough to have many people caring for him in his lifetime even though he did live outside. He had caretakers that fed him and watched out for him, like Barbara and Michael, and of course, Kelly and Jane. 🥹👏

Now he has an incredible family of his own that loves him so much, especially his mom Alicia, who took every possible second on a workday to keep contacting me and Cindy and the FIP Global network to try to get these meds for her boy.

We are grateful to Oceanside in Trenton for coming through with meds immediately because they are local! This may be what has saved his life. We don’t know at this point. ❤️

We intend to keep this medication on hand if at all possible so that we can be a source for people in the area who may get this diagnosis for their kitty.

As far as we know, FIP is not contagious other than it is a derivative of the coronavirus and develops because of a genetic mutation. I am certainly not an expert, but we have dealt with this before.

One of our very special little cats we had here in our rescue named Moonpie was diagnosed with FIP this winter. He started having neurological symptoms, including seizures, and sadly we lost him. 💔🐈‍⬛ this is when we were introduced to this wonderful network of people that could help us get medication. Sadly, it was too late for our boy, Moonpie, but he is helping others still.

Since we learned about the FIP Global network because of this little cat, Moonpie, we have been able to connect others to this life-saving medication for their kitties, including someone in England.

We are so happy when we realize that Lu is another kitty that little Moonpie has helped. 🥹👏🐈‍⬛❤️

Rescue carries on to the next kitty and sometimes we have incredible stories to share about how they can link together.

We are so hopeful for Lu and his family and every day we wait for a new happy update to hear that he’s doing better.

We were able to help the family with $400 because of some of our wonderful followers who donated, thank you. His family has spent thousands of dollars on him at this point so if you are interested in contributing, please consider Venmo or PayPal and designate your gift for Lu. ❤️🙂🤞

How do you give a rescuer a heart attack?

When you drop off your cat, let them out of the carrier in the driveway. 😳

We live near Oak Street in Ellsworth, which if any of you know Ellsworth…is very very busy!!

Especially at 5 o’clock in the afternoon, and on a weekday!

I appreciate the time spent by the people who brought us a beautiful little cat tonight so we could help give her a better life. 🐈‍⬛🐾

BUT I have to remind everyone that when you bring a cat to us, they MUST be in a hard sided carrier and do not open the door until we take kitty from you, bring her inside and THEN we can transfer. ❤️

It makes no difference how well-behaved the cat is. It makes absolutely no difference how wonderful your relationship with your cat is.

Loud noises, traffic, dogs, helicopters, as we are near a hospital, and many many other things can terrify any kitty, which could make it possible for them to run into the road, be injured or simply disappear.

ALWAYS contain your kitty when you bring your kitty to us. In fact, if you intend to travel anywhere with your kitty, even to the vet, EVEN NEXT DOOR, please make sure your kitty is contained because the unexpected can happen and you could lose them. ❤️

And by the way, nylon carriers with zippers stink. Cats have claws and trust me, they can get out of them.

While we truly appreciate the dedication and effort of the person that brought us a kitty recently in a tote because she got the kitty …regardless of whether kitty wanted to come or not… it’s dangerous to carry a kitty in anything but a secure carrier with a secure door and it is very important.

You should always have a carrier available to transport your kitty in case of emergency. If you need a secure carrier, reach out to us and if we have one will let you have it and if not, we’ll help you find one. ❤️

Make sure carrier FITS kitty. If you have a large cat…you need a large carrier.

You’re the human. Please be responsible for your kitty. Keep them safe. 🤞🐾🐾🐈‍⬛

The State of Maine, under Title 7, section 4041, prohibits an owner or keeper of a domestic animal/livestock from entering on or remaining on the property of another (unless the landowner allows it).

Recognizing the sovereign attitude of cats (a.k.a. felines), along with the apparent difficulty in herding them, the state has exempted cats from the animal trespass laws.

Freddy is due for a haircut! 💇

Freddy was Kale when we had him here at our rescue. 🐈‍⬛❤️

We love that they love this little guy so much that they’re making sure he’s comfortable this summer!

Long-haired kitties that live outside have a hard time with their coats. I’m so happy they’re taking to get him a shortcut for summer, which will keep down on bugs, mats and make him so much more comfy.

Thank you for loving him so much, Amanda!
❤️🐈‍⬛

After Freddy’s recent promotion to Head of Farm Security, it’s become clear that he may be in need of a more professional appearance. 😂

Just kidding… mostly.

In all seriousness, Freddy struggles pretty severely with matting in his coat, and despite our best efforts, I think we’re at the point where he needs some professional help.

I’m hoping to find a cat groomer in the Southern Maine area, preferably near Lebanon, who has experience working with cats and might be willing to help this handsome farm guy out. Whether that means a shave, a lion cut, or just getting him cleaned up and comfortable again, I’m open to recommendations.

I’ve already reached out to Waggerstown and Grand Paws Pet Salon, but unfortunately availability hasn’t worked out.

If you know of a groomer you’d trust with your cat, I’d love to hear your recommendations!

We love this quirky little farm cat, and besides… he’s got an important job to do. The voles aren’t going to catch themselves. 🐈🌱😂

Drop your recommendations below or send me a message. ❤️
