It’s a treat. Like a good conversation…

“Hello friends,

I'm standing in my kitchen waiting for water to boil in a small metal pot which I almost exclusively use to cook Annie's mac & cheese. I'm sipping on a grapefruit seltzer and enjoying the small cool breeze sneaking under the crack of the window next to the stove. All the lights are off in the house besides one warm yellow bulb above the kitchen sink, and I can hear the spring peepers in the lake. I could have waited another 10 minutes to get back upstairs to write this at my little table by the bedroom window, but now that I have no apps to surf on my phone I thought I might as well get some thoughts down to you while I enjoy these peaceful moments.

I have a few fun things to share with you tonight, but I want to highlight some upcoming shows before I dig into that.
Friday May 1st - The Park Theater in Glens Falls NY (with Gooch, Jimi, James, Connor, & JP)
We'll be back at the Park for our 4th visit. It's a big open room with a cavernous stage and heavy dark curtains, beautifully renovated a few years ago and outfitted with a fantastic sound system. I've found that drums sometimes fill the space with too much noise, given the way it's set up, and I'm feeling more inclined to explore some softer material this time around. We'll have some crowdpleasers, as they say, the upbeat ones where I get to show off my band with some mindbending solos, but I've got a bunch of songs on the setlist that deserve space to settle and breath. I hope you will join us there for the evening! There's apparently a playoff hockey game happening around the block so leave a few extra minutes to find parking nearby. Doors 7pm, showtime 8pm.

Saturday June 6th - The Rhumb Line in Gloucester MA (with Gooch, Jimi, James and special guests Charles Clements and Micah John)
No tickets for this special little hometown pub show! This will be our tune-up gig before we set sail the following evening on the American Eagle for our 4th annual Gam trip June 7th-12th. I'll have some talented pals sitting in with the band on bass and fiddle and we'll be dancing the night away from 8pm until late.

Other upcoming shows (tickets & info on my calendar):
May 9th - Harry's Hardware Den in Cabot VT
May 13th - Park City Music Hall in Bridgeport CT
May 17th - The Parting Glass in Saratoga Springs for Caffe Lena's Sing In The Streets Festival
May 28th - Artsworth Studios in Ellsworth ME

Alright, business aside, let's get cooking. The band and myself did get presented with an award on Sunday night (Americana Artist of the Year for the Capital Region NY, shared this year with Laura Leigh, a really solid artist from Cambridge NY with a great band more in the Country vein). We got it in 2023 and 2024, but not in 2025 because obviously we totally sucked that year. For what it's worth, I'll put the award to good use and I hope it will bring a few more folks out to see us if they get excited about that sort of thing, but I don't put much stock in it. I know better than anyone how good my band is, and I'm proud every single time I get to step on stage with them. I'll never need an award to help me understand how special the group is and how much our music deserves to be heard. I've already got the winning recipe… which is a segue to my real treat for this newsletter. For the very first time ever, I'm going to share publicly (this is as publicly as I share) my famous tofu scramble recipe. I make this every single morning if I have the time and the ingredients, and it has completely changed the way my body feels and how much energy I have through the morning and afternoon.

I found the initial recipe because my girlfriend in 2023 was vegan and gluten free (hi Kaylee) and I wanted something we could eat for breakfast together. I'm allergic to eggs, so I've always struggled in the breakfast department. Now once I made it for the first time, I realized pretty quickly that it was going to change things in a big way. I used to eat sugary cereal or a bagel for breakfast and before noon I'd be shaky and hungry. With this, I barely need to eat anything until dinnertime. Over the last few years I've adjusted items, perfected my spice blend, and stopped using any sort of timer - it's all feel at this point. You have to get the tofu to the right level of crisp on the bottom before you add the spices, but you can't let the spinach get overcooked. It's a delicate balance, but the result is absolutely incredible. I do not share this lightly, and I expect all of you to use this responsibly. To this date, only a handful of my family, closest friends, and former lovers have received this recipe. I want to share this as a token of my trust (I'm writing it out right now from memory), and my intention to make this mailing list a meaningful space to give and receive. Keep in mind this uses the portion that I make for myself, so you might want to adjust if it's too much or expand if you're making it for more than one. Try it out, adapt it, add some ingredients, enjoy yourself. If any of you have a favorite recipe that you're willing to share, please send it my way in return!

Here's the good stuff: Reese's Tofu Scramble Recipe

You have to send me a note the first time you try it and let me know what you think. The next few dozen times, it's all yours.

See you at the breakfast table (or at a show),
Reese”
