The true issue with retention is education, it’s a member that joined but not educated by their sponsor. It is an individual that was looking for personal gain not a community. It is the culture of your lodge that changes this. Would this be the letter that could educate a member after the fact? Your lodge leadership needs to be education first focused and you will hopefully avoid this letter.
Dear Member,
Before you decide not to renew your Moose membership, we’d like to share a thought with you.
Sometimes a member walks away because of a personal disagreement. Maybe someone argued with you, didn’t treat you fairly, or left you feeling disrespected. Those moments are painful, but it’s important to remember — it wasn’t the Moose, or the children of Mooseheart, or the seniors of Moosehaven who hurt you. It was one individual. Don’t let a single conflict cause you to give up on the mission and the fellowship that truly matter.
Other times, someone joins the Moose for a single event — a gaming night, a darts tournament, or just a fun evening out. That’s a great way to discover us, but the Moose is more than just a one-time experience. Our purpose is greater: we support children, we care for seniors, and we build bonds that last a lifetime. If you leave after only that first event, you never get to experience the heart of who we are.
Your membership dues are not just another bill. They are an investment in lives touched, communities served, and in the blessings of Mooseheart and Moosehaven. They are also your connection to lodge activities, friendships, and the sense of belonging that extends far beyond one moment or one event.
So before you quit, take a step back and remember why you joined. Think about what you’d be walking away from, and what you’d be giving up — not just for yourself, but for the children and seniors who depend on the work we do together.
The Moose is not about applause or recognition. It is about purpose. And your membership matters more than you may realize.
Fraternally,
[Your Lodge Leadership]
