Each year we honor the Seniors in our HCYP program at a Senior Night event. This year we celebrated a mix of players, umpires and even coaches. Some have been with HCYP since age 5! We wish all of our Seniors the best of luck in their bright futures.

HCYP is hosting the Central Maryland Special Olympics Softball Tournament for the 28th consecutive year on Sunday May 17th. This is an amazing event and we need help to get our fields in excellent playing shape for these athletes and to just come out and watch them compete. Please help us make this day perfect for everyone involved.

The Tournament draws teams from all over the state to include teams from Western Maryland and the Eastern Shore. Some of the athletes have been coming for the majority of the 20 plus years and really appreciate our facility and the volunteers. As "Hosts", HCYP handles the field prep, day of events logistical issues and breaking down and readying the fields for our games later in the day.

What do we need from our Coaches and player families:
Assistance from at least 10-12 volunteers starting at 7:00PM on Saturday May 16th to prep the 6 fields we are using for the tournament; includes adding safety bases, scoring plates, pitching rubbers and lining each of the fields and batters boxes.
Assistance from about 4-6 volunteers starting at 7:00AM on Sunday 5/17 to do any final field prep and touch up work left from Saturday. The opening ceremonies are at 9:30 and games begin at 10:00 and run until about 3:30 depending on the bracket.
Assistance from about 4-6 volunteers breaking down the fields starting at 4:00 PM or so on Sunday to ready the fields for our games to begin as soon as possible after the tournament is completed.

On occasion teams come out to cheer on the athletes as they compete in their games and skills competitions. This is a great team activity so please consider bringing your team to support the event. The teams that have come out in the past find it rewarding to support athletes that are competing. As a bonus the snack bar is open and some teams wrap a mini team party around the day.

Please email [email protected] and [email protected] if you are able to help.

🇺🇸Each year we hold our Memorial Day Tournament (AKA MDT) over Memorial Day weekend. This is a tournament where we honor those who have served or are serving by creating up to 5 teams (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard) depending on interest level. We will also often have current or former members of the military throw out first pitches. Some of my best memories from when my kids were playing in the rec league are from the MDT. Traditionally, MDT has been played at the International, Minor, Major, and Pony levels. More recently, we have created a 10U, 12U, and Pony division for MDT, and this format has also been very successful. We also allow 15 year old C**t players (league age) to participate. This year we may also invite a couple teams from other rec programs to participate.

The MDT is meant to be an elevated level of competition over the rec league. Teams play a series of pool games on Fri-Sun, sometimes inclusive of a doubleheader. Then, the teams with the best records play a championship game (either Sunday evening or Monday morning depending on number of teams and weather). Teams are selected through a draft that is held the weekend before the tournament, and not everyone who is available is selected. If not selected we do try and notify you as soon as the draft is concluded so you can plan your holiday weekend accordingly.

If you will be in town over Memorial Day weekend I highly encourage you to make your player available to be drafted. In addition to a fun and competitive weekend of baseball, players also will form new friendships with players from other teams and those friendships will carry over onto the field when those players return to their normal rec teams and play against each other over the remainder of the season and in future seasons.

You can register for the player draft here: https://registration.teamsnap.com/form/46059

If selected there is NO COST to participate.

For those coaches who are interested in leading a team please note this when registering. We will hold registrations open through 5/16, but the sooner we get our responses the better.

We are looking forward to another great MDT in 2026!
