Almost Home Dog Rescue advocates for the rescue and care of unwanted homeless dogs until they can be placed in permanent homes for a new second chance and to educate dog owners to help ensure a better outcome for a successful adoption. Almost Home Dog Rescue is a non-profit, no-kill, foster-based, all volunteer rescue organization dedicated to rescuing and rehabilating dogs at risk and in danger o

f an untimely death. We all share the passion of helping these homeless dogs who don’t have a voice, who won’t have a chance, without organizations such as this one, helping them to a new beginning. It is our mission to seek out dogs where there is need, to bring them to us where they are placed in loving foster homes and prepare them for their forever families. Our community outreach program will offer New Adopter classes whether you adopt from us or not. We need your help. Adopt, don’t shop. If you can’t adopt, foster. If you can’t foster, volunteer or donate to our cause. We may not be able to make a difference to all of the dogs in the world, but for the dogs we are able to rescue, we will make a world of difference. Education
Almost Home Dog Rescue is committed to helping educate owners or potential owners about dog training and dog behavior. We strive to make sure each dog that we adopt stay in their adoptive home. Each year, millions of dogs are returned to shelters or euthanized for behavior issues that could have been avoided if the adopter had the knowledge and skills to prevent and/or address these unwanted behaviors. We offer free seminars about dogs and dog behavior, as well as free adopter’s workshops to teach adopters about anything and everything they need to know about their new dog. We have free puppy play times to discuss body language and play styles. We provide education about spaying and neutering. We want to help people to be able to identify when and if their dog may have an issue or problem that can be address as soon as possible. We have access to a network of positive dog trainers in Maryland and will offer discounts to training classes and or/private sessions as needed.

McDog, a 3-5 yr old chihuahua mix might be looking for a man in his life (likes women too but he seems to love his foster dad). About 9 pounds, very sweet but needs time to feel secure around new noises and circumstances (he could do that in dad's arms).

One more dog to post...Vinnie is finally making his journey to Maryland and arriving Monday afternoon, He was found on the streets of Texas, filthy and starving...he has turned into the sweetest, loving, goofy, playful guy, amazing the difference some stability and good food can make (and thank you our wonderful foster Amy and her husband).

He will need to be treated for heartworms before he is available for adoption (no symptoms and expected to fully recover to live a long wonderful life) but thought we would show you how he was found. So many people don't understand what rescues put into their dogs before adoption.

Meet 6 pound Popi, maybe 4-6 years old, possibly one of the happiest, sweetest chihuahua mixes you may ever meet. Outgoing and friendly, although can be skittish around unfamiliar noises, and she is full of kisses. Her happy place is in your arms. Happily took treats from my 5 yr old grandson.

Her story-she and 9 other chihuahua mixes were in a home in Texas when owner passed away, the relatives put them all in a closed up garage in August (think of Texas temperatures). They were brought food and water twice a week, half didn't make it but Popi is a tough little survivor. Then confiscated into police custody when transporter left them in a parking lot at midnight (long story)-but she finally made it to Maryland at 330am last Saturday and she is loving life.

We think this little princess now needs to be treated like the royalty she would like to be. So Popi is ISO the perfect person for her to own-she is the best and deserves the best.

Sometimes you just really can't understand why a dog sits in foster care without interest. Ozzie (Oso) is that dog-he LOVES to share his life with his person. Will accompany you everywhere, will love all the cuddles you will give him. Fully housebroken and a delight to have around. About 4-5 years old and just over 15 pounds.
He is fine with dogs but would be perfectly happy with that person who wants only 1 dog. Ellicott City, Md
