1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime.

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we remember Sarah Moorefield, our beloved Employment Administrative Assistant who bravely fought breast cancer and passed away in 2024.

Sarah touched the lives of all of us here at The Arc since she joined our team in 2008. She was passionate about helping others, and though she is no longer with us, her memory remains in our hearts.

This month, we honor Sarah and everyone affected by breast cancer. May her memory remind us of the importance of early detection, support, and compassion. 💗

Every now and then, we grab a mic and sing!

Administrative staff Christine and Scott had a fun, no-holds barred music session with our very own DJ Randy singing along with other people we support. It was wonderful to see friendship and inclusion celebrated in such a simple but meaningful way!

Can you guess what they sang? It’s ABBA’s famous dance-floor anthem from the ‘70s. If you get it right, we’ll give you a shoutout 😊

Christine, you can’t play - you already know the answer! 😉

Have you checked off your fall bucket list yet? Apple and pumpkin picking, hayrides, a giant corn maze, fresh apple fritters, and apple c***r?

We did! Meet Brian, enjoying the corn maze at Larriland Farm! We didn’t get photos of all the fun activities the farm has to offer, but we did capture Brian exploring the maze. Wait up, Brian! 😄

Get out there and enjoy the weekend! We’re having such beautiful fall weather!

Any other fun fall activities you recommend for the people we support? Share your suggestions in the comments below! 👇

Additionally, her work supporting individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities reflects her dedication to promoting dignity, independence, inclusion, and quality of life for the people we serve.

Zuleyka is committed to building positive relationships, advocating for individuals who need support, and contributing to safe, respectful, and supportive environments.

Erika is a courtesy clerk at Weis, and she has a special talent for making customers smile! She takes pride in being dependable and showing up every day ready to do great work. For Erika, it’s about more than a job. It’s about making a difference, one customer at a time.

Erika reminds us that inclusive employment is more than earning a paycheck. It’s about building confidence, finding purpose, and knowing you belong.

Way to go, Erika! Keep making those smiles happen! 🌟

Remember Annie and Richard? Annie recently celebrated 29 years with The Arc. Congratulations, Annie! She always brings enthusiasm to her work and the people she supports!

Richard is also a longtime member of The Arc family. You’ll get to know him better as we feature his story in our annual appeal.

Together, their stories reflect The Arc’s journey from a group of families to an organization supporting 200+ people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Do you know what we did last summer?

We got our hands dirty with therapeutic gardening alongside Baltimore City Recreation & Parks at Clifton City Farm!

It was a wonderful experience of connecting with nature and building relationships. Everything is fun at The Arc!

Thank you to the Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) for hosting the annual Transition Fair at Wilde Lake High School! With 115 vendors, the event connected students and families with valuable information and resources for the transition to adult services.

The Arc’s table was busy all evening. We were glad to connect with so many families! (Former Board member Cathy Cope also came by to show her support!)

One of the programs we highlighted was our Project SEARCH, a one-year internship program for high school seniors with disabilities who are eligible for DDA and DORS services. Students work with a team that includes their family, special education teacher, The Arc of Howard County, and other community partners to support their transition to adulthood.

Did somebody say Free Zoo Day at the Maryland Zoo?! Count us in! 🦁🦒🐘

The people we support headed to the zoo yesterday and had a blast spotting all the animals. What a wild day of fun, connection, and community life! 💜

Our latest visit to DoodleHatch was all about turning simple cards into something special. The people we support learned how to use stamps to decorate their own cards!

These regular creative sessions give them a wonderful opportunity to explore their talents and try something new. We’re honored to have DoodleHatch as a partner in giving them this space, and are grateful for their continued support!
