Ava's Flavas

The concept of Ava's Flavas came about one evening while our Ava was in the hospital recuperating from a bone marrow transplant to cure her leukemia. While Ava was in the hospital, away from many of her family and friends, she received thoughtful gifts and acts of kindness from both close relatives and friends, as well as strangers. Once Ava was feeling well enough to do so, she wanted to come up

with a way to give back to other children going through similar health battles. Her concept of Ava's Flavas was to bring ice cream and crafts to pediatric hospital units. This would be a way to brighten not only the patient's day, but their family's and care giver's days, too. While in the hospital, we also noticed how a devastating diagnosis or lengthy treatment protocol can turn a family's life upside down. Some parents lost their jobs, others had a hard time figuring out how to pay their costly medical bills. Families shouldn't have to worry about these things when they have a sick child. So, in addition to bringing ice cream and crafts to local hospitals, Ava's Flavas collects monetary donations to help out families who are in need of financial assistance, as well.
