OMG, what a day on Saturday we had our 3rd annual Warriors in the Field Lost Creek Doe Hunt at the Headquarters of Operation Firm Handshake. We had 11 Veterans from all over North Central and Southern WV, from Army, Air Force, Marines, and Navy, with 15 tags and all with itchy trigger fingers. To start off we put blinds out Sunday Oct 11th, then throughout the week we freshened up the stands with corn every other day. Then up Saturday morning at 3:00 am stopping at Sheetz in Philippi WV for Breakfast they donated for our Veterans and crew, then off to lost creek, after a good breakfast coffee and morning fellowship and Blessing of the hunt we headed to drop of Hunters and guides for the morning Sit. Within 30 minutes of dropping the last Veteran off in the stand, the Does started hitting the ground and the phones started burning up for the recovery crews to head out in the field. As the day progressed the hunt slowed down of course. The remaining Veterans in the stands we pulled them in for lunch and more fellowship. After 3 hours of Hunting stories and shots being exaggerated. With a lot of great stories we headed out for the evening hunt. With darkness rolling in after a few hours on stand the valleys started echoing with gunfire once more. And the hunters started coming back in, we had 14 of 15 tags filled with our 83 year old Veteran left to fill his, with not being very mobile the crew went to work to get a Deer in front of him, with only about a minute of shooting light left he had his chance and put the last one on the ground and filled his tag, the crew went to work cleaning up after his shot and preparing his Doe for a photo. All this wouldn’t be possible with the support of others such as land owners Hayseed and Cara Hall, Richard and Tina Law and Steve Rogers and his wife, as well as Sheetz in Philippi, and Boonie Jarvis and Dean Randolph for donating the corn for this hunt, plus the Volunteers for helping out at Operation Firm Handshake with making the lunch meal and supplying all the drinks.
