We sure do love seeing folks get excited about the trails. 😊
And we especially love a little creativity, some dirt moving, and folks wanting to make things more fun. But here’s the thing, neighbor… those jumps showing up in the middle of the shared-use trails aren’t quite what we had in mind.

These trails were professionally designed and built with significant financial and community investment to be easy, accessible shared-use trails—for walkers, runners, families, casual cyclists, and everybody in between. So please, don’t add jumps, berms, or other features to the existing trails.

We promise we’re not trying to take all the fun out of it. Actually, quite the opposite, we're trying to create spaces for everyone to enjoy. If you’ve got a hankering to build something fun, come talk to us! We’d much rather help find the right place and the right way to make it happen than have you sneaking out there with a shovel. 😏

Thanks, y’all. ❤️

UPDATE: new date is 8/18.

If you've been to Fox Forest, you know what a special place it is and how lucky we are to have it so close to town. If you haven't been, now is your chance to check it out (with the man who established it). EAST is partnering with for some trail corridor clearing on the evening of Tuesday, Aug. 18.

If you have a weedeater, loppers or handsaw, bring it, along with gloves, eye protection, closed toed shoes, water, snacks and whatever else you may need for a few hours in the woods. (But, leave those bikes at home or in the parking lot as they aren't allowed in the WMA).

Volunteers should arrive at the Scotts Ford Boat Launch parking lot by 6:00pm to meet up with our trail work leads (Adam and Erika). There is only enough parking for about 10 vehicles, so carpool or walk if you can.

South Haddix Trail workday this Saturday, Aug. 8th!

Fresh opportunities await along the new section of Corridor H/Rt. 48 between Elkins and Parsons. Come check them out and lend the USFS a hand while you're there.

EAST is coordinating trail corridor clearing for a few hours this Saturday and would love your help. Check out the EAST Outdoor Community Volunteer Network page for all the details, to register (let us know you're coming), and report volunteer hours afterwards that help us secure more resources for trail building and maintenance in the future.

Are you as stoked as we are about the new trails on D&E's campus? Can you spare some time and sweat this Sunday to help us get them back in shape? Tuesday's storm left our beloved trails looking like a hot mess, but with enough volunteers and tools, we can whip them back into hike, bike, and run-ready shape in no time! Grab your trail shoes, some gloves, loppers, and hand saws if you have them and join us in the trail-saving party so we can all get back to enjoying them ASAP! 🏞️💪

Sunday, July 26
10:00 - 12:00ish
Meet at the stone pillars near the athletic fields (Allen Dr off Harpertown Rd). If we're already out, just wander along a trail and you'll find us.

UPDATE: since our original post EAST VISTA Erika walked all the Senator Trails and there are a total of 4 trees on or close to trails. Stay tuned for details on a time to meet this weekend and help get them cleared out.

While we were definitely spared the worst of this recent storm, we do have another tree down on the Senator Trails. This one is on President's Hill on the East side of the campus.
We are working to get a sawyer on site for removal asap and will keep you posted.
Thanks for your patience. Be safe out there and let us know if you come across any other hazards.

Timber! Thanks to all of you who reached out to let us know about the tree down on the D&E Trails. EAST is working with to have this removed asap.
In the meantime, if you're not up for climbing over or under this beast, avoid the section behind Glory Residence Hall for now. We'll let you know when it's all clear.

In honor of World Bicycle Day, we’re celebrating the power of the bicycle to transform how we move, connect, and experience the world around us.

Right now the DOH is in the process of renewing the Statewide WV Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan and invites YOU to share your thoughts. There are several in-person opportunities planned around the state this month and an open online survey here - https://engagekh.mysocialpinpoint.com/walk-ride-wv.
