**ATTENTION PARENTS, TEACHERS, AND STUDENTS!**

**There's still time to enter the VFW's 2026-2027 Voice of Democracy and Patriot's Pen competitions!**

Cameron Ponder VFW Post 12237 is encouraging local students to participate in two great programs that give our young people an opportunity to share their thoughts about our country, its history, and the Veterans who have helped shape it.

This year's theme for both competitions is:

**"What a Veteran Taught Me About America"**

**Patriot's Pen | Grades 6-8**
- 300-400 word written essay
- National first-place prize: **$5,000**

**Voice of Democracy | Grades 9-12**
- 3-5 minute recorded audio essay, with a typed copy
- National first-place scholarship: **$35,000**

Scholarships and awards are available at multiple levels of competition.

We have some outstanding young people in our community, and we want to see them take advantage of these opportunities.

Parents, teachers, school counselors, and community members, please help us spread the word. Sometimes all it takes is a little encouragement for a student to discover what they're capable of accomplishing.

Today, Cameron Ponder VFW Post 12237 joins VFW Posts across the country in celebrating 127 years of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Since 1899, the VFW has stood for veterans, their families, and the communities they call home. That mission is just as important today as it was when our organization was founded.

Here at Post 12237, we are proud to carry that tradition forward by supporting veterans, serving our community, honoring those who came before us, and looking out for one another.

To our members, families, volunteers, and community supporters, thank you for helping us continue the mission.

What a great morning in Rineyville.

Cameron Ponder VFW Post 12237 had the privilege of serving more than 125 members of our community during this year’s Rineyville Days Community Breakfast.

To everyone who came through the line, sat down for breakfast, stopped by our Veterans of Foreign Wars VFW table, made a donation, or simply spent a few minutes visiting with us, thank you for supporting our Post and allowing us to be part of your morning.

This is what the VFW is about. We are Veterans who served our country, but our service did not end when we took off the uniform.

Our Posts should be present in our communities, serving our neighbors, supporting our families, and setting the example for the next generation.

A special thank you to the members and volunteers of Cameron Ponder Post 12237 who gave their time to cook, serve, set up, clean up, and make the morning a success.

We also want to thank Elaine and Amy from Rineyville Elementary School for allowing us to use the school kitchen and for all of their support before and during the event. Having access to a great facility and people willing to help made a big difference in our ability to serve everyone.

A very special thank you as well to the Bluegrass Challenge Academy for allowing us the opportunity to work alongside your outstanding cadets. They worked hard, represented the Academy well, and were an important part of making breakfast run as smoothly as it did. We were proud to serve beside them.

And finally, thank you to the Rineyville community for once again welcoming us and supporting the VFW.

125+ breakfasts served. One community. Veterans continuing to serve.

We look forward to seeing everyone again next year.

Today, on National POW/MIA Recognition Day, we pause to honor the American service members who were prisoners of war and those who remain missing in action.

For their families, the waiting, questions, and sacrifice do not end with the passing of time. Neither should our commitment to remember them.

The empty chair, the black and white POW/MIA flag, and the words “You Are Not Forgotten” represent a promise our nation must continue to keep.

Cameron Ponder VFW Post 12237 stands with the families of our POWs and MIAs and remembers those who have not yet returned home.

We will continue to say their names, honor their service, and keep faith with their families.

Rineyville Days Community Breakfast

Come join Cameron Ponder VFW Post 12237 next Saturday morning as we kick off Rineyville Days with a FREE community breakfast before the parade!

We will be serving from 7:30 AM to 9:00 AM at Rineyville Elementary School.

Come hungry and choose from pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, orange juice, and coffee. There is no charge to eat, but donations are welcome and appreciated.

While you are there, take a few minutes to meet some of the Veterans from our Post. We will have a table set up for Veterans interested in learning more about VFW membership and eligibility, as well as information for students and families about the Patriot's Pen and Voice of Democracy scholarship programs.

Then stick around and enjoy the Rineyville Days Parade at 10:00 AM.

Today, Cameron Ponder VFW Post 12237 pauses to remember September 11, 2001.

We remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost that day. We remember the first responders who ran toward danger, the families whose lives were changed forever, and the men and women who answered our Nation’s call in the years that followed.

For many of us, September 11th was more than a moment in history. It shaped a generation of service and sacrifice.

Twenty-five years later, our responsibility remains the same: remember those we lost, honor those who served, and never forget the cost of our freedom.
