Today we honor the men and women of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Mike Kilano served with 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines (2/1) as a field radio operator and SAW gunner. On March 20th, 2003 Mike along with the 2/1 crossed The Burm into Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Their mission was to take Umm Qasr, Az Zubayr and Nasiriyah. “Those 4-5 months were utterly life changing. I still have nightmares of my mission, of what I had to do” - Mike Kilano

Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day - Today we honor the memory of two WWII Veterans; Armando "Chick" Galella who survived the Peal Harbor attack (December 7th, 1941) and his friend John J. Ho­ran who was killed during the attack. I was our privilege to interview Chick at his home in Sleepy Hollow, NY in 2018. During our interview Chick spoke about honoring his friends memory by helping to dedicate a local park in John J. Ho­ran's memory.
Unfortunately Chick passed away in 2021.

FREE To All Veterans "World War II Radio Christmas"
at the Southampton Cultural Center, Southampton, NY!

This December Boots on the Ground Theater is excited to present a very special show for the holidays: a “WWII Radio Christmas Show” honoring the 80th anniversary of the end of the end of WWII. It's a sweet nostalgic trip back to those times. Set in a radio studio (onstage) Christmas Eve 1944.... complete with old jingles, sound effects and carols of course. It runs December 5-14. 2 weekends Friday/Saturday 7pm Sunday 3pm.

Plus there’ll be an exhibit in the Southampton Cultural Center gallery of more than 50 large panels featuring the bios and photos of men and women from the East End of Long Island, NY who served. Sponsored by the Southampton History Museum and researched by my Stephen Gould, the museum curator.

While eating Thanksgiving dinner, Vietnam 1967, Frank Scolaro was interrupted when his commander say 2 Vietcong. Frank and his buddy were sent out to remove the enemy threat.

While serving in the Air Force Swazi tried out for and earned a spot on the both the Turkey and Greek USAFE basketball teams. Leading Torrejon to a USAEF championship.

Bill Albracht served with Army Special Forces in Vietnam. Firebase Kate was his first command. It would be a memorable one. The NVA began its siege of Firebase Kate in night of October 28, 1969.

Frank Scolaro served with the 1st Air Cavalry in Vietnam 1967-68was wounded on January 6th, 1968 by a gr***de, resulting in shrapnel injuries to his wrist, legs, and body.
