In this week's Growing Greener podcast, Perfect Earth partner Tom Christopher rebroadcasts a 2019 conversation with his neighbor Brian Stewart, who began photographing the insects he found in his 1/4-acre Connecticut backyard that's filled with mostly native plants. Today, almost two decades later after he started the project, he has found more than 1000 different species. Learn what he discovered and how you can do the same in your own yard. Listen where you find your podcasts or find the recording and transcript at the link below.

The New York Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is being pressured to interpret the Birds and Bees Protection Act to undermine restrictions on dangerously toxic neonic pesticides used on lawns and gardens.

Add your name to the petition (linked in stories!) by October 16 to convince Governor Hochul and the DEC, and help defend protections for pollinators, people, and New York’s environment.

The DEC is also taking public comments on how this important law is put into practice. Don’t let them remove restrictions on neonic pesticides used on lawns, gardens, and treated crop seeds!

In this week's Growing Greener podcast, Perfect Earth partner Tom Christopher talks with Shawn Maestretti, principal of Studio Petrichor, a celebrated landscape design and installation firm in Altadena, California, about his “conversation” with pocket gophers. Gophers are generally reviled as a pest in western gardens, but Shawn has come to respect not only this native creature’s right to share the landscape but also the invaluable role it can play as a soil engineer.

We've all heard the mantra: Leave the leaves! And with good reason. They're crucial to biodiversity. They provide habitat for overwintering insects. They enrich the soil when they decompose. And they reduce waste by staying out of landfills. While it's best to leave the leaves where they land in your yard, we know it’s not always possible. Perfect Earth founder has created an ever so chic solution for your excess leaves. Learn how you can do it at home and why you shouldn't chop up your leaves in our latest PRFCT Newsletter and story with at the link below.

“Rewilding (with Dahlias)” was the irresistible title that Jessica Williams chose for the Digging Deeper garden tour and talk she gave for The Garden Conservancy earlier this month.

In this week's Growing Greener podcast, Perfect Earth partner Tom Christopher talks with Jessica about how she created a lush, colorful, and wildlife-rich garden without fertilizing, mulch, or irrigation and how she enlisted bumblebees to breed the black-leaved dahlias whose blossoms make her Odd Duck Farm a living jewel box.
