Welcome to The Hive at Clear Creek Farm -- a gathering place to explore the arts, crafts and traditions that bind us to one another and to our Mother Earth

Our focus on nature-based art and crafts traditions inspired us to want to start at the very beginning– with the soil and the miraculous network of life under our feet that makes everything else possible, including the plants and animals that

sustain us and provide us with fibers and pigments and more that become our “art supplies.” Our classes and workshops are loosely grouped into categories reflecting the journey from healthy soils to the art and crafted products we make from harvested and foraged natural materials.

This Sunday, September 13th!

Have you ever dreamed of starting with a raw fleece freshly sheared off the sheep and then transforming it into a wearable garment? Then we have the perfect opportunity for you.

Start by going on a field trip to Carnation Farms Sunday, September 13th, 10am - 12pm to watch 10 of their adorable lambs get sheared by a professional shearer. Buy your fresh fleece right there! Watch and listen to Anna Hosick-Kalahan of Skagit Woolen Works talk about skirting a fleece and what to look for when purchasing your first fleece.*

Stop for some lunch at the Carnation Farm Stand for delicious fresh made sandwiches, snacks, fresh produce, and treats.

Then head to Clear Creek Farm where from 1pm to 4pm Anna Hosick-Kalahan will be teaching her workshop on Wool Breeds, Fleece Selection, and Scouring. Learn more about different types of wool and how to clean your fleece for processing.

Come back the following Sunday, September 20th, 1pm - 4pm to take Anna’s workshop on Wool Prep Tools & Techniques to learn how to turn your clean fleece into fiber ready to be spun.

Featured Workshop: Learn to Weave on a Rigid Heddle Loom with Yvonne Ellsworth on Saturday, September 12th 1pm - 4pm

Weaving on a Rigid Heddle Loom is fast and easy. Quickly weave scarves, washcloths, or placemats. Use it to sample yarn combinations faster than your table or floor loom. We will cover direct warping onto the loom, warp stripes, weft stripes and other tips and tricks along the way.

We have looms available, so you can try before you buy. If you choose not to purchase the loom, but wish to continue weaving, simply leave it here and join us for Fiber Circles to work on your project.

Happening this Saturday! Workshop: Tablet Weaving with Marilyn Romatka

Weaving with just threads and a deck of cards? Is it possible? Yes! This ingenious technique has been around since the Iron Age, yet produces beautiful contemporary bands that can be used as belts, jewelry, bookmarks, trim, etc.

The “Threaded-in Design ” technique is taught in this beginner’s class, but once you learn to weave with cards, there are lots of other, more challenging, techniques you will want to advance to; Card Weaving is practically inexhaustible! No previous weaving experience is necessary for this class . All materials will be provided, and at the end of class, the cards go home with you for many hours of continued weaving fun.
